You always hear about these rabbit holes type of stuff, where YT will keep suggesting to you content you engage with, and that's fine.

But these past 10 days or so, I've been seeing some really weird recommandations. Mostly very small channels, on very niche topics, sometimes the title is just numbers etc...

Today I get recommended this video, made by what looks like to be a little girl who was told by her parents that maybe it's not super smart to post your face online. There is even something about it being YT kids, so why the fuck would it be recommended to me? Or anyone for that matter?

I can't imagine I am the only adult who was recommended this in their feed, and I can't imagine any good reason why.

These are the same people who will demonetize your channel in a heartbeat for wrong think.

its youtubes piss poor attempt to get new channels attention, most of the time it reccommends me things i dont care about, which annoys me and hurts those small creators because "do not reccommend channel" makes the retarded algorithm think a creator sucks in the niche even though in reality i just dont care about that niche, or even worse, i ignore videos entirely, which results in them getting ranked lower in the algorithm since it shows the algorithm that sad content cant get any interaction of any kind, they need to get their shit together and reccommend new channels to people who like those specific topics or those videos will probably be DOA.
Probably a reaction to being sued for that dude who went down the ISIS rabbithole then did a terrorism. By adding random channels, it's harder to argue the algo is directly reinforcing "problematic" viewing habits.

I've been getting these for like 2 months, and just hit "don't recommend channel" for anything under 1k views, or soyface.

That "recommending new, very low view videos" thing has been going on for a while. For at least the last year virtually every page I load there's always one that's a sort of "fuck it" recommendation, a lot of times they've got sub 10 viewcount.

Weird furry shit, college girls basketball games, indian cult material (?), tech tutorials about programs I've never heard of, podcasts about tabletop gaming tournaments, recordings of sales conferences, foreign language vlogs, all kinds of off the wall stuff. Never anything made by kids though.

Personally I think it's cool, it gives the feeling of stumbling across some random obscure video like you would on old YT rather than only ever getting highly produced, samey material from channels that have already taken off.

Maybe other people gave similar feedback, and that's why they implemented it as an algorithmic feature.

it's never not cringe.
unless it's one of my videos :)

Solution was tie with @Ultrapenguin

It's pretty much routine now that I get to see all kind of weird videos recommended on my homepage. In all languages, type of content and topics.

I used to have a very curated homepage and it probably took some time to roll out world wide. Maybe I was also late because I would often go in these rages where I would literally spend an hour or so doom scrolling just so I could hit every news or tv channel with a do not recommend.

But now, the function of do not recommend is truly cut at the knee. It does not matter how many you decide to hit with it, they pretty much have a few allocated spots. It's like wack them all, there will always be another small weird video to creep back up in its place.

I guess what I really don't like about this feature (if we ignore recommending YT kids to adults, knowing they are adults. To be fair to them, never happened again) is that it does not take my interests into account at all. And I really echo with @sweater_supremacy here.

I think people would actually like to discover new creators, but I don't think that you accomplish this, knowing how the algorithm works, by just random selection.

I kind of feel like the people who do not have an adblocker but refuse to accept personalized ads. If you're going to be forced to watch ads, it might as well about something you could be interested in.
