Writer for Half Life, Marc Laidlaw, has left Valve

I wouldn't be surprised if there were several drafts, none of them to be seen until dictated. Didn't any 'suspicious artworks' leak at all, or were they just really convincing fanart?

iirc, there's some official concept art of some Combine advisors floating through a frozen canyon where the Borealis is stuck.

edit: scroll down a bit, there's a couple versions of that pic from (wow) 8 years ago: http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Future_of_the_Half-Life_series

How did they shoehorn Portal in? The ship?

At this point they've probably split up the HL division to different parts of the company. I've never been too hyped for HL3 but it's an interesting case.

Última edición:
Obviously Half Life 3 is dead, or just vapour ware that'll never exist outside design documents but the fact that the head writer is leaving valve is a shame, though since Valve stopped making games with stories and compelling worlds and just make hats and MOBAs, (the game genre for people who hate themselves and everyone else) Laidlaw leaving isn't really a great loss at this point if Valve wasn't gonna make use of him anyway.

The Borealis is an Aperture thing. There's a hidden area in Portal 2 that is a dock for it, incidentally.

That annoyed me, not because of the fact that Aperture Science's role wasn't resolved but the fact that Valve seemed to know they were done with Half Life and decided to write themselves into a wall anyway because they wouldn't have to make the effort of resolving anything. So they ended with the villains not stopped (the story seems to imply that Freeman's efforts have barely given the Combine a paper cut), the G-man unexplained, Aperture Science given a walk on cameo and Alyx's revenge never shown.

I have a (very old, not exactly 100% reliable) source that indicated to me once that HL3 does exist in one form or another - as a basic alpha, beta, or some kind of actual, playable thing that exists. If I had to extrapolate, I'd say that it's in much the same state as DNF: a build was created, then shelved for so long it's hopelessly obsolete by current gaming standards.

If so, they should let it die.

Yeah. When we actually gotten Duke Nukem Forever, it didn't hold up as to what it was when the first builds were around. Half-Life 3 being in development for a while similar to DNF would end up having the same fate: being a mediocre FPS. If Valve really did want to make the game, they'd really have to set it apart from other FPS games.

It's pretty shitty and cheap to leave off an actual narrative on a cliff-hanger and then do nothing. But it's better than a DNF.

it's not even made by valve. and it's already on steam, it's called polybridge.

it's really at the point where i can't be mad at valve for not making games because they don't seem to even see themselves as devs anymore, they run the steam client, make disappointing hardware and license off their IPs. instead of playing blackjack, they just built a casino. but the fact that steam has no moderation and no actual support staff makes it look like they shit their pants and do nothing all day.

Steam runs effectively a monopoly on buying games digitally, which LETS them shit their pants and do nothing all day. They're still making cash by the metric ton everyday.
