There are some youtube videos that come up about small apartments called 'Never too small'. It's full of well designed, small apartments for the middle classes. I can see this as a virtue-signalling thing by the creative class trying to stop 'waste' and all those 'gross' McMansions. Of course, billionaires are never going to do this, it's for childless urbanites, squeezing into tiny but well-appointed spaces as a point of pride. Here's one example, 50 square metres.....

If there was a horrifying sticker available here I'd use it right now. I thought apartments were meant as temporary homes for those who are too far away from their jobs. Now almost everyone seem to accommodate small spaces, which honestly looks terrifying.

Sadly, that video shows one of the larger ones, go down the rabbithole of that channel, mate, It's like a weird attempt to make studio apartments not the povo thing they've been classified as in the past.
 
So does charging a battery. It's energy storage, not energy generation.
Except the electricity used to charge a battery already has been produced. It's not as convoluted as spending the energy to produce hydrogen, storing the hydrogen, and then fueling the hydrogen fuel cell. Aside from not having to wait an hour-plus to charge my car (which doesn't matter to the vast majority of people since rarely do people drive more than 4-5 hours), what possible advantage is there in hydrogen cars? It's an incredibly inefficient use of energy compared to simply plugging your car in, and has no advantage over using the energy to make synthetic oil/ethanol to power cars using existing infrastructure.

Has it? Plants have to constantly ramp up and down based on demand, a big problem for nuclear power plants. And renewables might produce energy when you don't need it.
The excess energy can be used to generate hydrogen, lessening the need for grid energy storage while producing a portable fuel source.

It's much much less convoluted than ethanol production. Or Fischer-Tropf which requires a hydrogen source to begin with.

That's not a "What if", that's how it is. Talk to anyone pushing towards a "mobility revolution" or something. They will not like to admit it, but in the end they don't want to replace ICE cars with electrical cars, they want to abolish as many cars as possible, period. Individual mobility beyond the range of a bicycle is supposed to be a luxury.

Nuclear power plants exist to produce a baseload of energy, and renewable energy more or less requires energy storage to actually be useful. So with that in mind, why generate hydrogen instead of a million other things? Or why install that capacity at all if it's just being used to generate hydrogen instead of the far more efficient method of just plugging the car in. That surge in power demand can be reliably estimated, since people plug their cars in when they get home for the day.

Except both ethanol and the Fischer Tropsch process don't require the creation of an entirely new infrastructure.

Because it's easy, flexible, and can be done pretty much anywhere?

There's also other grid energy storage solution that I like, like pumped hydro.
But it's not an either-or thing, it's a complex problem that will require a combination of different solutions.

Because the capacity has to be enough to satisfy peak demand. So what are you doing on the off-peak hours?

An apartment is an apartment regardless, no matter how you try to largen it, it will remain the same thing; soulless, corporate and a complete antithesis to a house. If the future boils down to everyone poor, rich, white or nigger living in the same apartment, then I am not willing to participate in it.

You claim it's a good idea to increase demand for electricity by increasing production of hydrogen, therefore you are arguing to increase installed capacity of electricity. I am claiming that hydrogen is an inefficient way of powering cars compared to pretty much anything for a wide variety of factors, including environmental, therefore a more efficient use of that excess energy is to do pretty much anything else with it.

I'm not sure he is. To me, it looks like he's arguing that we should have enough nuclear/other flat generation to meet peak demand, then use the excess off-peak energy production to generate hydrogen.

Yeah, these places are deffo not cheap, they are typically architect designed. The channel is certainly interesting, though. A view into the future, perhaps.

You can produce hydrogen in a ton of ways. Including the very simple and effective process of electrolysis.

Ethanol? Are you kidding me? You have to produce hydrogen, then ammonia from it, then use that fertilize plants, then grow them, then harvest, then ferment them, then distill it. How efficient. Or you make it from ethylene, the production of which contributes significantly to our carbon footprint.

And EVs have losses to, only about 80% of the energy from your socket actually ends up as stored energy in your batteries (which is about the same efficiency you can achieve with electrolysis). There's a reason EV batteries require cooling - they heat up = loss of energy.
And you're ignoring all the problems EVs bring, like the production of batteries, the limited life span of batteries, the strain on the domestic grid, etc..

I'm ignoring it because I'm mostly focused on the inherent physical inefficiency of hydrogen compared to electric vehicles. I'm not even getting into the issues with storing hydrogen (a corrosive and flammable substance) which probably would cause all manner of problems if people actually used hydrogen vehicles aside from the limited sales done in a few cities in Japan and California.

It's around 60% currently. Less than EV but still triple that of a internal combustion engine with ethanol.

Its a trendy thing for these faggots, they'll drop it the moment it goes out of fashion. Consider that none of them are using ikea furniture hacked together like most flat dwellers have to resort to, its all custom design made to order which probably costs as much as a medium house in a suburb

Again, its a fashion thing, just like driving a mini cooper was for a while

The point is you have to burn MORE fossil fuels to get the same amount of miles with a national fleet of hydrogen cars than EVs. You're adding additional steps for zero benefit.

Brazil has made incredible strides toward this. In addition to the large number of E90-E100 vehicles on the road there, all vehicles use E25 fuel.

Personally, I like ethanol vehicles because one can theoretically distill the fuel in their garage (you legally need an ATF permit and for the ATF's sake add some bullshit to it that makes it undrinkable, but fuck the ATF).

Economic and cultural manipulation. Unlike in the Industrial era where poor farmers and rural manor owners had interest groups advocating for them that managed to develop the countryside and alleviate the difficulty in economic transition (i.e. mechanization of agriculture), in the Great Reset there will be no aid. The increasingly high price of fuel will strangle rural businesses, farms will either be consolidated into Big Ag-affiliates or turned back to nature (i.e. what Ted Turner is doing in the West), and the people left to die out as their children move to cities. Jobs will be filled with cheap immigrant labor picking crops on the large farms. It may be possible to live off the UBI in a rural area, but one would pay so much for services and likely run into legal issues fishing/hunting/gathering/farming that life would be very difficult compared to the "easy" life of living in a pod and eating bugs in the city.

What rural life is left will mostly be the second and third homes of the laptop class and the oligarchs. Note that this is already happening with the vast amount of land purchases made by people like Ted Turner, Bill Gates, and orgs like Blackrock. They REALLY want the entire world to become renters, and they hate that people could ever do something like experience the beauty of nature on their own terms and not through some commercialized bullshit.
