You know how I know cops don’t actually give a shit about law and order? A 17-year-old who (allegedly) shot and killed two people has become a cause célèbre for law enforcement and assholes nationwide. Common sense would tell you that supporting an alleged homicide suspect is probably something a cop shouldn’t do, right? Well, a Virginia cop—oh wait, excuse me—a former Virginia cop learned that lesson the hard way after losing his job for donating money to Kyle Rittenhouse’s defense fund.

According to NBC News, Lt. William Kelly of the Norfolk Police Department was terminated from his job in internal affairs after it was discovered he donated $25 to Rittenhouse’s defense fund with the message, “God bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You’ve done nothing wrong.”

“You’ve done nothing wrong.” Glad to know that the guy who was responsible for holding police responsible for misconduct sees nothing wrong with allegedly committing homicide. I’m sure he probably had very strong feelings about Black Lives Matter and property damage, though.

Kelly was placed on administrative leave last Friday while an investigation was conducted by city officials, before ultimately being fired on Tuesday.

“Chief Larry Boone and I have concluded Lt. Kelly’s actions are in violation of City and departmental policies,” Chip Filer, the city manager of Norfolk, said in a statement. “His egregious comments erode the trust between the Norfolk Police Department and those they are sworn to serve. The City of Norfolk has a standard of behavior for all employees, and we will hold staff accountable.”

Norfolk Police Chief Larry Boone also issued a statement regarding Kelly’s firing. “A police department cannot do its job when the public loses trust with those whose duty is to serve and protect them. We do not want perceptions of any individual officer to undermine the relations between the Norfolk Police Department and the community,” Boone’s statement read.

Kelly’s message really gets at the heart of how they—they being cops and white folks—see us. “You’ve done nothing wrong,” says it all. They truly believe that protesting against a broken system, demanding that cops stop acting like scared little shits when they see a Black person, is an offense that should be punishable by death.

Kelly can file a grievance and appeal his termination, and given how much this country loves shitty cops, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was back on the force by the end of the year.

They could have tried to term him for using personal email for private business but the Norfolk PD put out a statement that specifically said it was his comments on the donation.

The problem is he didn't make a public statement, he made a private one and it was hacked.

Cops are mostly good people and it's weird how this entire forum seems to think they're tantruming children who will quit the second they're not allowed to randomly kill black people. The lack of respect I see here for our boys in blue is pretty disgusting.

The LEOs husband and I know because they care about their communities, and DO want to protect and serve. Nearly all of the local police officers and sheriffs deputies also volunteer for youth sports leagues, homeless resources, backpacks full of school supplies for poor kids, things of that nature.

Sure, there are some bad cops, but not all of them are bloodthirsty murdering savages like the media and losers like Tess Holiday want you to think.

My girlfriend's husband is a policeman and he's never even had to use his weapon in 15 years of doing police work.

So you guys can be as disrespectful and anti-police as you want because at the end of the day if somebody is breaking into your house or you're getting domestically abused, these are the men who are going to show up at your door and rescue you. They don't expect that you'll thank them for it, they don't demand your respect. But they'll still help you, because that's what they do. Personally, I think that makes them heroes.

Never said I was anti-cop in the first place to begin with - they run into the same issues that a lot of teacher's unions run into where the higher-ups have a major disconnect with what's happening on the ground floor, and all it takes is some bad apples to sour someone's viewpoint on the profession. Cops also have to walk a tightrope in some areas thanks to the prevalence of cameras everywhere, and their job isn't about to get any easier either with so many people in the US on edge.

I've only had a few encounters with cops myself, and each time went far smoother than the media would like to paint cops thanks to a little kindness being tossed their way. At the end of the day they just want to get home to their family, and it takes a lot to willingly go in a job field where one bad day could cost you everything.
