I'm a Republican, but imo not really. I think a lot of people just expect liberals to get along better than they do and when they don't it's more... childish? They make a much bigger scene when they don't get along than conservatives, but I think it happens about as often.

I think the far nutty right is about as bad. Look at any figures considered "leaders" of the "alt-right" and the constant accusations of being cucks, (((Those People))) or whatever. It's insane. Any group of people who can't get along with the mainstream on their own "side" is going to have a lot of nuts in it.

The left seems like it's a lot more like that even in the semi-mainstream part, though.

In this case, it's really just that mastodon is full of utterly shitty people who couldn't hack it on twitter and either got banned for harassing people or were just too special as snowflakes go to deal with being triggered by the existence of cishet whatevers. So someone like Wil Wheaton would be the biggest "celebrity" there even as a total Z-lister, because it's a platform full of complete nobodies.

Since they have nobody else to harass, they're naturally going to focus on someone like that instantly and treat him as a Nazi invader, something anyone who knew anything could see was going to happen the instant he said he was planning on going over there.

In this case, the pretense was the Randi Harper blocklist, because Harper in addition to banning other people also banned the shittiest troons on Twitter, angering them because they got cut off from being able to harass a whole swath of semi-famous to famous people including Wheaton. Wasn't always like this. Back in the day, the Left tended to be much more fact-based and the Right much more rhetorical during call outs. Social Media diluted both pools and caused the extremists of both types to metastasize in their own little autistic camps where they proceeded to get more and more autistic.

As ever, the only thing extremists agree on is how much they hate moderates of any kind. Seriously, follow one of these assclowns for a while and watch how long it takes before one of them bitches about radical centrism or those damnable moderates.
