LOL. Look at the little bitch boy act like he's got some kind of fucking leverage.

"Get rid of Jones or I'm taking my ball and going home!"

I'm amazed at his hubris in thinking anyone even fucking cares. He's a has-been whose peak was as a barely-ever-was. His only relevant role was in 1986 when he was like 13, and every other fucking person from that went on to a better career, like Kiefer Sutherland and River Phoenix. Even Corey fucking Feldman had more of a career than he did.

His legacy is as the most hated character since Scrappy Doo.

I don't want to derail the thread too much, so here's a good video on the situation:

tldr; However well it did on Netflix they weren't willing to fund the entire thing again, or even the majority. Along with licensing issues, Les Moonves' being in trouble and major production troubles it's not looking good. The fact the guy who wrote Tom Cruise's The Mummy is in charge of Star Trek as a whole is probably bad news for the franchise as a whole, really.

:informative: Didn't know about all that. I've stopped following trek happenings pretty much since the "KelvinLens Flare Timeline" fuckery.

Let me save everyone 20 10 minutes (lol if you aren't watching sped rants at 2x):

1 - STD season one was prefunded by the netflix deal, so it didn't really matter how it performed. Netflix was unhappy with the performance and has gotten significant concessions from CBS; Season 2 will be judged on actual performance (and it ain't looking good). CBS seems to be trying to pass this hot potato over to Paramount in the worse deals in the history of deals.
2 - STD is being run by people who either don't know Trek or dislike scifi, written as millennial bait to try to get young people to sign up for CBS's streaming service.
3 - Paramount's trek movies are contractually obligated to be different from any existing Trek series in look & theme. (So its not all JJ Abrams fault; I said ALL)
4 - Season 2 seems to be in trouble already, the first episodes are overbudget, and that is going to affect the later ones.
5 - The guy who was driving Star Trek:SJW (Les Moonves) to get tumblrinas signed up to CBS has been #metoo'd, and might not be able to anything about point 4.
6 - Recent trek products are so bad & alienating existing fans to such a degree, a series with no premise, no scripts, no theme, no nothing other than "we'll be making something Star Trek related with Patrick Steward" gets standing ovations.
7 - Star Trek: Going back to the Well isn't looking so good, with the writing/production talent involved in STD's shitting on the existing series being attached.

When are these fucking morons going to realize that having beloved series rebooted right into the fucking toilet by people who hate the original, and marketed to people who hate the original, are never, ever, in a million years, going to be financially successful?

I blame SWTOR to be honest.

The guy hated Star Wars, but managed to produce something financially and socially praised.

Probably because he grew to respect the franchise as he went along and was actually pretty clever when subverting the lore, but that don't mean shit, do it?

Abused spouse syndrome.
You're going to have a core of fans who will watch it and buy your merch. So you to try to attract new fans, while continually shitting on your die-hard fans, because they keep crawling back. "Hey, they keep beating us while they pee on us, but they have stopped eating asparagus. Time to come back to the fandom guys, they're respecting fans again."
This has been going on for as long as there have been corporate focus groups, its just gotten more egregious now due to social media.

Blame Social Media, MCU, BattleStar Reboot, and the SW prequels, really.
As much as the prequels were panned, and as much as they pissed off fans, they still made bank.
The Battlestar reboot was a very stark shift from the 70s, but ended up being a commerical and critical success.
MCU has been fucking with canon but makes bank.

Now, any sane person would see the difference between these examples and heinous gender-swapped reboots. Media execs are the farthest from sane you can get.
What you're seeing with STD though is a missapplication of social media datamining. Before Facebook, you used to have to actually work to collect data about what ever demographic you were targeting (commonly the 18-25 demo); that meant having people do research, observation, interviews. It was messy, time consuming, expensive, and needed to be collated & correctly properly for the analysis to be turned into anything meanful.

But, thanks to modern social media, you can easily see what people in your target audience are posting about in real time.
"Most people 18-25 are screeching about diversity and strong wimmins? We're going to need to give them diversity and strong wimmins to attract that new generation. So slap that shit on our most valuable property that doesn't have any current champion with political weight."
This of course ignores a few things.
1) While there are lots of people with social media accounts, the active percentage is very small, and is heavily biased; the numbers they are pulling aren't reflecting reality. Less than 1% of the population does 99% of the screeching.
There is also a....feed back loop. Where if I am an instagram whore, what I want is more followers so I can whore myself to better sponsors. So I'll look around, see what's popular, and put that in my instafeed to attract more people, regardless of whether or not that reflects my views. I'll see people are dogpiling on anyone who trash-talks ghostbusters, and retweeting anyone defending ghostbusters, and so I'll do both to get more followers, even if I never intend to see the fucking movie. Other wanna-bes will see what I'm doing, and follow suit, a true ouroboros of faggotry. But because I have so many followers, when you're doing your datamining, you're going to assume whatever I'm typing or sharing or w/e is more popular.
I guess what I'm saying is that the problem with basing your marketing research on "influencers" is that those influencers are aware of their status and actively working to maintain & improve it; they aren't representing the aggregate actions of a demographic, they are representing the actions of someone trying to monetize their popularity.

2) If you don't actually have good writers, writing good stories with good characters, it won't matter if you've optimally tuned the melanin content & genital ratios of your cast or not.

edit:
3) Changing a product to remove the stuff people are screeching about doesn't turn the people screeching into fans. Making Thor a Black Lesbian doesn't mean they'll buy Thor comic books, it just means they'll now screech about why Black Lesbian Thor is enforcing the gender binary.
They don't want to support these franchises (what with their history of toxic masculinity and all), they never intend to become fans, they just want to remove anything that disagrees with their world view.

4) It also assumes these NEETS who spend all day screeching on facebook have any money to spend.

tl;dr:
Media companies continue to base decisions on social media posts, despite it being almost two years after Trump was elected.

Quick derail, question about this one. Into Darkness had Khan in it, are the movies excluded from this requirement? I noticed you said "series" so it seems to imply the answer is yes, but I was just curious.

Yes, Paramount owns the movie rights.

I didn't know about this before watching that video, so my research is a little fresh. From what I've gathered so far:
Paramount &CBS used to be under Viacom, Viacom spun off Paramount and became CVS. A part of the split they divied up media rights, trek being one of the properties. Paramount owns the rights to the movies, CBS owns the rights to the series. They both have rights to the Star Trek trademarked vocabulary*, but Paramount, if they wanted to make new Trek Movies, was required to make the movies obviously different & distinct from the Trek properties owned by CBS.
Which is why they made Khan a pastey british alien instead of a suave spaniard.

This is very important; Notice the MCU never mentions what metal Captain America's shield is made up of? That's because Fox, due to their X-men license, owns the rights to Adamantium (or specifically, comic book adamantium). They also own the right to several other key terms, like "mutant". Clawing back the rights to these terms was a big impetus for the Fox buy out.

Kinda stupid, but still made me chuckle.

Captain America's shield is made from Vibranium numbnuts.

Both, actually. It's an Adamantium and Vibranium alloy that was produced by happenstance, with the inventor unable to replicate the process since. The Adamantium is what gives it the durability to withstand anything, while the Vibranium absorbs the shockwaves and impacts that would have otherwise turned Cap's insides into chunky salsa.

I think he's going to be in a pretty tough spot, because he's obviously going to want to push hard to be on it, but at the same time it looks like the #woke crowd he runs with has already decided it's shitlordy for having another DANG DIRTY WHITE MALE captain, so him joining the cast to make it even more white and male (say, in the Chief Engineer slot, one formerly occupied by a black man) could sink his socjus cred.
#woke crowd can fuck off, damn Philistines!

By the way they announced who will play Spock in seson 2, someone called Ethan Peck

Look at Batwoman it's proving your point. CW announces a superhero show staring a Jewish Lesbian character and they cast a Lesbian and the response by the left and LGBT(Alphabet Soup) was she's a bad actress well duh it's C fucking W, she's not Jewish, she's not Lesbian enough apparently there is a pussy eating quota, oh and she's too skinny to be a hero. So apparently they wanted Judy God Damn Gold or no one it seems by their demands.

I'd probably watch that.

This faggot squandered his chance at being remembered as "cool" by having a sense of humor for years all the way up until that 2016 tweet. Now everybody will only remember him as "Wesley, that cuck who should shut up".

More whining about Alex Jones instead of being present with his family, creating art he cares about, pretending to be an adult...

Yawn, just another circlejerk twitter clone that will only last a few weeks before they all go back to Twitter. It's always been like this for the platforms made to appeal to both the alt-right and ANTIFA autists.

I swear I read somewhere that "verified" Twitter accounts that voluntarily deactivate have up to a year to come back, not thirty days. Must admit I'm not finding that spelled out definitively anywhere, but it kind of makes sense, in the sense that somebody could grab the account.

ww-twitterdelete01.PNG ww-twitterdelete02.jpg

Wouldn't it be funny as hell if Wheaton trolled his followers by getting them to shoah their accounts lemming style then he reactivated on Day 31, wouldn't it?
