My daughter came back from school yesterday asking why all the Indians are dead. I explained to her India is a huge country overseas and there are many indians living in our community. She said the other ones, the ones we killed.

Brought it up with the wife, she described Zinn as the other side of the story. Says she's glad they're teaching the 1619 project in second grade.

Never used this word before, but, Kek. How do you live with someone who thinks these things? I usually have some kind of emotional detachment, but this hits close to home. Seems like child abuse for the school to be teaching my daughter her parents were slave holders and murderers. Not sure how I feel about the wife's indifference.

Just explain that history often proves you aren't human until you show the ability and desire to fight back. This is a great teaching point for the second amendment

Sit her down and read to her about Hannah Duston/Dustin/Durstan's story, then tell her those were the nice ones.

"Her parents were murderers and slave holders"

As far as I know, YOU have not killed anyone or had any slave. That is a very important thing to clear out with your daughter. She should know that history is complicated and brutal, but never use the words "WE KILLED".

If we traced back our history through all our ancesters we'll both find great people who did great deeds, average people, and absolutely awfuly cruel people. You can't just take one piece of history and apply it to yourself or your family. What YOU do matters.

Changing topics, I'll have you all know I have some Italian ancestry, so fuck'yall haters, I was emperor of Europe.

Tell her Indians were barbarics who lived in the age of conquest and they were bitch niggas who couldn't handle the superior nations adaptation to it. While killing eachother for land and deer, Euros stepped in to finish it more efficiently.

It's very hard to correct your kids on this point.

No, we were not slave holders, no, the vast majority of people were not slave holders, slavery was the way the world worked back then and our people were the ones to end it. Try saying that and the wife chimes in with 10 other points and the kid just hears adults arguing.

Why is the school system teaching lies?

IME if a mother and a father have different views, generally speaking the child will go with the mother. It's even historical. Most Roman converts of Christianity have had Christian mothers. And don't even get me started on modern vegan moms.

Let her know that there were actually hundreds of unique Indian cultures in America, many of which survive to this day. Some tribes have actually swelled to greater numbers than their ancestors ever could've dreamed of.

Really challenge her expectations by saying most Indians sided with the South during the Civil War, not only because they were often friends and neighbors, but because the Confederacy offered them greater autonomy than the North did.

Tell your kid a little about what the Aztecs were doing. Also explain to her that before the discovery of quinine to prevent malaria in 1820, the slave trade was heavily reliant on black Africans to do the actual catching and selling to the slave boats because white people got sick and died from mosquito bites on the continent. Tell her that several black African nations became major slave exporters and got rich conquering neighboring lands and selling slaves.

The "whites bad" narrative relies on selectively leaving out information to create a false, race-based victim and oppressor narrative. Don't argue about what the white people were doing at the time. Never act defensive. If anyone says that what you're talking about doesn't excuse slavery or whatever, just say, "I'm not excusing it. I'm teaching her how it really happened, and who was really involved." They're gonna have a hell of a harder time arguing with that.
