From my perspective DSPig has a very narrow mindset and this sieves through his inability to comprehend intentional game design and the limits of it. He seems to think there is only one way to play games: His way, because he is a "high profile gamer" and this is also a very comforting (but stupid) mentality. Just the way he talks about every single game and is complete incapable of immersion, gives the impression he has very low expectations on videogames like they are trash in general. So every game that gives him a negative feeling: Must be broken, must be a bug, must be incompetence. Phil always wins, dood.
We all play games for different reasons (I do it to shut down a little bit) but I think Phil does it to
validate himself. Or at least he gives this impression. Just look how easily he goes to the salt mines and refuses to give games or other players positive credit. How he is not able to understand that developers can't change how their players play the game (f.e. camping, jumping while shooting. Legit strategies). How he tries to cheese each situation with really stupid tactics (even if it takes hours) just because he is stubborn. How he is unable to adapt to the enemy and how every enemy win is "unearned" and how he holds up his pride when he produces at least mediocre results.
Sounds familiar? RAW gameplay best gameplay? Blocks everyone who criticizes his methods? Jumps to the treetop whenever there is even the slightest idea of changing something? It think this all goes hand in hand.
I never thought of that but somehow this makes sense to me. But it only explains partly why he is bad at games: To be good you need to work up yourself, but of course then Phil would "lose" because playing differently is not him.
The other aspect could be simpler: He's just an idiot.
Just watch how he needs to focus on some games so his movement and speach stops. How he creates tunnel vision and ignores everything around him (even when ge gets shot multiple times). How he very often states that he doesn't understand how the game works or what he has to do. It's not only impatience and ignorance.
He's just a complete idiot.
But his recent bad gameplay and especially lot of ragequits has much to do with what
@Son of Big Boss said, I would say. He jumps fast from game to game because he thinks THIS will give him big money so there is not even a whiff of patience anymore. Not even a crumb of learning curve to be seen.
