I think there are two factors at play here:

1. Wojak is far more versatile. You can endlessly remix Wojak to represent almost anything. The meme replaced its contenders as its adaptability made them obsolete.

2. By about 2011ish rage comics became popular with Reddit, which meant nobody on 4chan wanted to use them anymore. This was before the massive normie influx into 4chan that came with the 2016 US election and Trump fad, which meant there was still a clear barrier between it and the rest of the Internet. When people on Reddit realised people on 4chan didn't consider it cool anymore they stopped using them too.

There are more people on the internet, so it will just take a longer time to go through its meme cycle. Speaking of the meme cycle, I can't wait to see when it truly hits the mainstream, wojakposters will be eternally in ruins

Wojak is profoundly more expressive than ragecomics ever were. And when Wojak doesn't fit a certain character it often takes some minimal alteration to make it work. Ragecomics are too childish and cartoony, despite having essentially the same idea.

Disagree. He's unexpressive. That's why he's perfect. The Kuleshov effect suggests we get what emotion we feel out of his blank face based on the context. The first "feels guy" i saw on 4chan was about seeing somebody in a coffin at a funeral (which is also part of Kuleshov's experiment) and I really felt like that blank ol wojak expressed that. Wojak is the most cinematic meme we've ever had.

Rage comics tell you how feel. They're exaggerated and inhuman. They're a laugh track or applause sign. And it's irritating.
