It probably is a regional thing. I think they still sell spaghetti and fried chicken + rice in the Philippines. They probably also don't want to bother with logistics. Maybe they'll make it a seasonal item like the McRibs sometime in the future?

Mcdonalds tried onion nuggets in the late 70's to 80's but stopped selling them due to poor sales. Chances are they don't sell onion rings because they can't be cooked en masse like fries so they have to be cooked to order...taking up precious fryer space.

Jack in the Box and Whataburger have decent onion rings. Of the two I'd recommend Jack since the Whataburger drive thru takes forever and the quality of the rings is the same.
