People who complain about WebP are poor and are using outdated software. IT'S 2024, WEBP IS THE BEST IMAGE COMPRESSION FORMAT, JPEG IS OLD AND GAY. GET WITH THE TIMES.

A million bajillion programs handle images for various reasons and about 0.05% of them can use webp. I don't give a single fuck about compression efficiency compared to wasting time with a format that's incompatible with everything.

I've noticed that using WebP instead of JPEG for Internet memes saves about 20-50 KB. Multiply that over 10.000 times, and you have FIVE. HUNDRED. MEGABYTES. The savings add up!

That's because we the people are not campaigning enough to make WebP the standard. How about instead of bitching about "muh compatibly", we expand open source program's abilities to properly handle WebP images?

gif is hilariously inefficient (4 megs for one medium res photo, really?) and bmp is exclusively lossless, offering no lossy mode. WebP offers both a lossless and lossy compression mode.
