Why does authority always win?

Because you wouldn't see it as authority if you were operating at an equal level.

It's like that with police, some people think police suck and hate them, but realistically if you get along with police and are able to deal with them they're pretty beneficial. The leeway they have means they can screw you if they don't like you, but if they do like you they can do a hell of a lot to let you off. At that point they aren't authority anymore, they're just dudes doing their job.
