Because anime/manga covers a wide range of subjects/themes, so different groups are gonna like different things within it. I think the issue is that stuff like lolicon/shota is definitely not a minority genre within anime/manga though.

The debates about Godzilla when Minus One was new are a good example. Since Godzilla varies depending on who's writing or directing, there's a good amount of entries that fall on either side of the political spectrum. As for the reason: Just like Japanese video games for western video games, Japanese anime is a competitor to western movies. Usually when someone asks something like "Why do fascists like anime" or "Why do SJWs like anime", they are likely an anime viewer who doesn't want to acknowledge the actual question, which is "Why do spastic social rejects who can't integrate with polite society like anime?".

And yet the most popular anime in Japan right now--Detective Conan--is one of the most celibate anime ever. 1. Anime is insanely popular with normalfags now, especially young normalfags. This alienates aging Gen-Xers/Millennials who lived their lives when anime was aniche. As such they sperg out when seeing it, coming up with any reason under the sun to hate it. It is no different to how boomers/older Gen-Xers sperged over video games. 3. Society has been subjected to moral outrage for the past decade at least (arguably 2). You simply can't like and do something for a personal reason, you have to have political/moral justification. You see this from opinions on media to reasons for trolling (ex. the recent furaffinity hack). This also goes hand-in-hand with the low-effort contrarianism a lot of young people like to engage in.

I don't know, try something like Yu Yu Hakusho, which I loved the first time I watched it. Another one would be Hunter x Hunter, the "new" (2011) series (some people don't like it, I do a lot).

Neither of these focus on coomer stuff, they're more about adventure, fights, powers/magic, and much more.

"Anime" as a whole means very little, unless you're specifying which one you're talking about, like I cannot stand anything that focuses on waifus or stupid perverted stuff (which there's a lot of), however one of my favourite movies is anime: "Spirited Away", it's very inspiring to me and I love its vibe and atmosphere.

There are people who watch anime and then there are weebs. People who don't like or watch it get what its watchers must be like based off weebs being annoying, weird spergs. TV shows and movies are passive entertainment and most normal people don't get into fandoms. Your opinion on what sort of person watches XYZ is going to be based off the visible audience: which in anime's unlucky case is literally the worst dregs of the most awful stereotype of an overgrown sweaty nerd. And it's just not something worth arguing about to prove in any one direction so anyone not on the extreme ends isn't going to bother.

A non-negligible amount of anime is created by pedophiles, and one of the most popular anime right now is Made in Abyss which was made by a huge degenerate pedophile and has shitloads of other pedophiles flocking to it calling it a masterpiece.
