Why did the Matrix not have as much courage as Dark City?

Is dark city the movie with all those albinos in 1950s fed glow in the dark outfits who are actually weird slug creatures? if so If you mean courage as incomprehensiveness than i guess dark city is more courageous than Matrix.

Because they're two different movies with different goals?

I like both movies. Dark City has more of a gritty, arthouse feel. The Matrix was there to please popcorn audiences.

There's room for both, but to act as if they should be the same is kind of silly.
This has not been a courageous response, I exorcise you from this thread.
