My sweet summer child, try learning German. Every noun has a grammatical gender based on literally nothing and has to have the article or adjective to be properly declined according to case and gender. Even after 20 years I still fuck this up. It was easier to grasp things like Lithuanian which has a more complex case system but it all makes intuitive sense. For the people learning the language, English has a very easy grammar but a very difficult pronunciation. It is the opposite of Spanish, which has a very difficult grammar but a very easy pronunciation.
I hate German. The language is terrible and the people smell like sauerkraut. On the other hand I'm finding Japanese easier to learn, but it's probably because I grew up in a multilingual household. My sweet summer child, try learning German. Ah but it is interesting because if you can speak both English and German you have a passing understanding of at least Dutch and some nearly unfortunately dead dialects. I can't speak Dutch but I can read and actively understand it. Never spent a day trying to learn Dutch. I can make out most other Germanic languages if I squint hard enough. You would think Icelandic would be the hardest, but for me it is Danish.I hate German. The language is terrible and the people smell like sauerkraut.
