A lot of the gay community is obnoxiously leftist and pseudo-intellectual. These are the kind of people who are pretty much guaranteed to have the "In this house, we believe..." sign. Some of them get annoyed by this, having a few more brain cells to rub together, and some, given life experiences of being told how oppressed they are but not seeing or feeling any oppression themselves, become almost reflexively contrarian.
