Why are autistic people so hypersensitive? - Be it certain sounds, texture, negative responses, etc.

It's not a trend, it's how they are wired. I have a friend who can only listen to gospel music, walk around the neighborhood during quiet times, watch certain movies, and avoids the internet altogether. He told me it's impossible to cope with everything, only one or two things at a time, and shuts down at least once a day to take a nap.

Social conformity is actually a brain function. People naturally adopt the norms and beliefs of the groups they find themselves in. Autists kinda struggle with that, coming off as weird or out of place and say and do things that are inappropriate.

I'm misophonic and quickly get exhausted being around anyone for an extended period of time. I wouldn't say I'm hypersensitive, but again if I have to listen to people's shit for a while, that may come out. I don't know why, I'm just an autistic retard.

I have a really low tolerance for loud noises and annoying speech patterns. I think everyone is annoyed to the same degree but the difference is in how you react to it. I have a coworker with a REALLY annoying voice and laugh. And she laughs at everything. Constantly. So even though it is technically against the rules I have resorted to keeping my earbuds in all the time so that in a moments notice I can drown out her annoying cackling with loud music.

I also have this fucking gook that I sometimes have to interact with and he's equally annoying, and has a habit of shouting "EH?" in an annoying voice when he doesn't understand something. The sound is hard to describe, less like EH? more like AUUUGH? Think of a heavily accented and unnecessarily loud HUH? rather than just say 'what?' or 'huh?' like a normal person. He also asks me dumb questions instead of just fucking doing what I ask and gives me a fucking attitude like it's such an inconvenience to be asked to just do your fucking job. God and I'm pissed at myself too because I missed an opportunity to really go off on him, but the next time he does it, I'm not holding back.

I just want to be able to work in peace, is that too much to ask? God I can't wait to get out of this fucking store.

Both of these people have been with the store for fucking ages, so it's unlikely that i'll get rid of them any time soon. But that's fine. I don't mind playing the long game. 20 years max and I'm out of this dump.

In real cases, they may have a genuine issue with processing the sounds, especially when it's startling. In most of the newer cases though, they shopped around for a doctor who hands out the desired diagnosis for the purpose of getting to act like an insufferable twat to everyone while everyone else has to walk on eggshells.

It's not just autistic people. The human brain did not evolve to be overloaded by sensory stimuli, it can cause fatigue and anxiety. Autistic people just have a more extreme form of this.

I'm hypersensitive to emotional situations. I'm an emotional person. I don't get overstimulated I'm just an extreme empath. I can kind of predict what people feel even before they realize it. I am however sensitive to sounds and smells. I always joke that I can hear a mouse queef and smell its fart from the next town over.

I dislike the term "empath", in my opinion you just have a healthy dose of common sense and basic levels of perception. You've had experience in life and can deduct how things will go down. "Empath" is what tumblrinas call each other to make themselves feel important in their online soapboxes.

No-bullshit hypothesis: autists physically are a lot more sensitive to stimuli. Which if you put that into consideration, would explain a lot of autist behaviors, and this can go a number of different ways with anything involving having to use their brain
