I know the presumed/typical response here would be autism spectrum disorders... but what else? I'd think personality disorders like histrionic personality disorder and borderline personality disorder result in a high degree of lolcow byproducts. Schizophrenia, too, but oftentimes the result of that condition is more sad that anything. So treating or looking at them in a sort of "lolcow light" gives one a feeling akin to "trolls' remorse".

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a similar thread in my searching.

Cows with legitimate schizophrenia are more sad than funny to me, imo. Especially if they're unmedicated and aren't really in control of their thoughts and actions. Good 'ol :autism: is always funny.

pretty much. Those are in a constellation of personality disorders called cluster B in the DSM (I think it was in IV, def in V). There can be cross-talk or co-morbidity in that area.

cluster A is more your schizoid stuff
cluster C is more your depressive, obsessive type stuff

I kind of suspect more cluster B with a lot of them too (I think a lot of it is more attention seeking than the actual issue - hence the overt responses)

I wouldn't put too much on just the word "obsessive" - there are all kinds of disorders that cause people to inordinately focus on something.

Not saying it ISN'T something in that constellation, but not really saying it is either. I just brought up those various clusters for ref

I know somebody else in another thread said that playing armchair psychologist is kind of frowned upon here, as it supposedly reeks of projectionism and almost complete hearsay. So I guess maybe this thread makes me look bad. But I'm kinda new and only really read a few certain threads here. So sorry for coming across like a douchebag here maybe.

Anyway, I think Diego/Thursday definitely has autism. He mentioned in one of his videos that he has a learning disability. He might also have some kind of psychotic disorder.

And I know it's kinda pathetic and "power level"-y for me to keep bringing this up, but I did actually call Diego on the phone months back and talked to him for like half an hour. I wanted really badly to ask him what his actual diagnosis is, because he has mentioned that he sees a therapist, but I thought broaching the subject would really hurt his feelings and I don't want to do that or cause him to hang up on me.

Also, he came across as much more normal in a one-on-one conversation than he does in his videos. I think part of this is because he's actually kind of e-famous if you look at it objectively. He was on national TV... And Tosh.0 is probably shown in other countries. So this sort of "fame" I think has gone to Diego's head a bit and it encourages his sometimes bizarre behavior in his videos, because it's being reinforced by "fans" who are looking at him mockingly whilst simultaneously giving him genuine sounding words of encouragement and kindness. I mean, like you, I find him endearing in some ways as a person, but let's face it, he's a complete wreck mentally/neurologically.



As for what you said about GamerGate. The whole phenomona of that on both sides kind of annoys me at this point, because it's like a sort of Streissand effect all over the place with it. Like, for example, if there weren't so many rabid GG folks out there, then nobody at all would probably know who the fuck someone like Anita Sarkeesian even is. There are some feminists out there who can sometimes sound compelling, at least on some degree, or are at least internally consistent and not almost always being deliberately misleading. She is not one of those feminists.

It varies, most of them are on the autism spectrum. Some others have narcissistic personality disorder, a lot of the female lolcows are BPD or bipolar. Some others have legit depression, and the schizo ones are obvious. So is gender dysphoria, but they largely overlap with ASD

Universally, a lolcow has little understanding of how their actions are perceived by others. The same applies to most of us here. But lolcows carry an inflated sense of grandiosity that keeps them coming back to the internet and treating everyone as props to their own movie, all in an attempt to reach their ideal selves.

Probably the best answer so far.

Lately though the focus seems to be going away from autistic cows to people with GID, (or people that just cross-dress) usually paired with Paedophilia or some other deviancies and obsessions. You also have your tumblrinas, which mentioned above, are probably more likely to have over-inflated egos, gullibility, and narcissism as a result of being bombarded and over saturated with shit from the internet, the mcdonalds culture, being spoiled in all aspects of life, youthful rebellion, and not being able to fact check.

The worst like Alison Rapp, Zoe Quinn, and Anita are probably BPD though.

Don't know much about Rapp, but Quinn is def. BPD. Anita I don't think is BPD, I think she's just an idiot.

Anita isn't a lolcow, she's smart and humble enough not to blog about her life. She was a generic humanities major who stepped on a goldmine by hitting raw nerves with sexist video game tropes, and was able to game insecure nerds who are desperate enough for legitimacy to throw money at her.

The backers don't expect a complete kickstarter and aren't paying for one. They care more about the cause than the product, and are stupid enough to believe that most women notice or care about any of the tropes. Anita provides simple and comforting answers to complex questions. Why don't women care about dice-rolling RPGs? Because they don't like bikini armor! Meanwhile everyone watching gets to pat themselves on the back for being the Good Nerd. "I'm a geek, but at least I'm not gross like those other guys! I don't even masturbate to video games anymore, its so below me!"

The comforting lie that Anita presents is that you can attract women to your hobby by getting rid of the little things that you already don't care about. Are sexy elves really the hill you want to die on? Did you honestly get a kick out of saving the princess? Of course not, unless you're a gamergator. Just make the next Call of Duty protagonist a female and matchmaking sessions will soon be 50% girls. It's just that easy!

Of course it's not that easy. There's a gender disparity in gaming for sure, but most women will tell you that they don't care about bikini armor or damsel plotlines. They care more about gameplay, accessibility, and socialization. Which is why super-gross IPs like Resident Evil, Diablo, and WoW have a larger percentage of female players than fucking Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

To my knowledge Anita's series doesn't touch on the games that are the most popular with women (Singstar, Bejewled, the Sims) because the people watching it hate those games. Women are almost ashamed to be seen playing them. If the male viewers are reminded that bringing women into their hobby might require including more Billboard Hot 40 Karaoke, then the illusion is broken, and the terrifying reality sets in. Men and women have generally diverging interests, and you can't rope your girlfriend into playing Warhammer 40k unless you make it something other than Warhammer 40k.

No, she doesn't. She likes you, and is mature enough to feign interest in your hobbies while you tweet about how Glee makes you want to commit suicide. That and there's a dyed hair bipolar girl at those tabletop sessions and she wants to make sure your not the next victim.

Hahaha, why else do you think she insisted on going to the strip club with you and the guys? Because she's just cool like that? No straight woman ever patronizes a stripper joint for their own sake and the same is true for your spaceship sims.

As much as the off the cuff remark is Autism, that's really a bit too broad of a thing, as Autism's scope in the medical journals keeps absorbing more and more previously separate mental conditions, to the point where tbh a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder is almost meaningless on it's own. However, for a true lolcow, you need a bit more than just Autism, you need the perfect storm of narccissism as well.
 
I think the ones who try way too hard definitely have narcissistic personality disorder. Just look at Margaret Palermo for example.
