Don't ask how I know this, but it is important to avoid books that are too smooth. While the book shouldn't be as rough as sandpaper, it should at least be rough enough to actually scrape stuff off. The best book to use as toilet paper would probably be a newspaper.

Years ago, we had a copy of Dianetics in the bathroom, so I tried using it as toilet paper for giggles, but it was useless even for that. Not absorbent whatsoever, and had the texture of cardboard.

It was worth it to say I did it, I guess.
