KF definitely has a collection of oddballs for amusement/horror purposes that are exhibited in the Lolcow thread, but what I want to know is, where do they come from? Obviously, Tumblr and loveshy forums are easy pickings, as well as "Rat King" connections, and any drifter who will happily admit in chat that they're a crossdressing furry with a BDSM fetish, but it's the ones that come from darker corners of the Internet that I've come to wonder about. I'm certainly in no place of the Internet to find someone who practices sex acts while dressed up as Goofy (with extensive makeup and prosthetics), or people that sound like carnival sideshow acts ("Freelee the Banana Girl") or a random angry fat guy whose Twitter feed includes rants on politics and reviews of cheap frozen pizza?

Where are these people even found, and how are they that identifiable?

It's not really a planned thing per se, people just kind of bump into them on the Internet.

For instance, ADF was originally discovered by 4chan when some guy on there posted his pic of an Anime character shooting John McCain, which he found while browsing Deviant Art.

imo, I don't even think it's possible to purposefully find a lolcow unless you spend an autistic amount of time lurking their usual hubs (i.e. Tumblr, Reddit, YouTube, Wrong Planet, etc)

You kind of just find them randomly. I believe that the dumbest are always the loudest (this doesn't just apply to cows) so all you have to do is find who's making the most noise. All the real good cows tend to have huge egos and never shut up.

Honestly, SomethingAwful is a breeding ground of minor runts who do nothing but power level 24/7

So much in fact you have to wonder the likelihood of them ever being hired for a job :/

Yeah, it's very definitely a bit of degrees-of-seperation and a lot of chance. A fair few get found through their relationships with other cows we already know of (often while investigating aforementioned cow), but a big chunk is also just from randomly seeing someone say something on <insert social media/site of choice> and following up on it.

Yeah it's usually random when I come across these people. I've already told this story before, but finding Tommy Tooter was really just me looking for gender dysphoria videos on YouTube and his channel popping up somehow. I wasn't expecting that he'd be this crazy. He just seemed like a weird oddity I wanted to share cause I thought their videos were really strange and he seemed to already have a long history going back years and years when I first started pulling info on him.

There's other people I just randomly notice in comment sections of other vids I have watched before, like ones criticizing Sarkeesian Effect creator Davis Aurini and Aaron Clarey and seeing their names pop up and then I check out their channel and see how much hate they've gotten and how weird their videos are and I'm also motivated to share things like that or they are even recommended by the YouTube person I had watched before, so that's another way in itself.

With Nora Reed, I was checking Zinnia's Twitter that day and noticed the conversation they had with each other and then I went to the profile myself and found out I had been blocked, so that was the first time I ever knew anything about her as well.

You don't find lolcows. Lolcows find you.
It's a little of both. Nearly every major cow leaves a hidden treasure on the internet, and it's important to note that this is almost always done of their own free will. Chris uploaded Sonichu, ADF uploaded his McCain picture, Joe Cracker had his Zelda script, Brad Watson had his 7+4 theories. Finding those is enough to get a few chuckles and have maybe a page or two of discussion.

The second half happens when the cow inevitably finds the discussion and either joins in or chimps out. That's when they go to being a full-blown Lolcow.

Anyone who randomly blocks people they don't even know is a lolcow.

Just join a forum. Any forum at all, there are bound to be a few. Going with the something awful above, small forums seem to be better, as there is much more powerleveling, groupthink and shielding of spergs going on. Where I came from everydayshouldbesaturday.com is ripe with lolcows from a small site that is sports in name only. I made a thread
