I remember in 2009, going to an event that was pushing SJW stuff, it was even called "Social justice" then. I also recall when I was much younger conservative speakers talking about how "the left will do x y z" and decades later that stuff happened. Its been around since people wanted to change things for change's sake, or at lease its roots.
But if you mean mainstream, GamerGate and its aftermath is when it seemed to have gotten big enough to be "mainstream".

To be honest SJW-ism like ethics and idealoglies have been with us for a very, very long time; and so has anti-SJW. Same shit different asshole.
This is not a new thing, it's just become more vocal thanks to the internet and people becoming more aware. The term SJW is pretty recent but other terms like "New Age", "Milliant Feminism/Equality" or even "Hippie" for SJW pretty much enclose this. It's been around forever.
People often think that this is a new thing when in reality that because we've became the most educated generation, we are becoming fully aware of different cultures and idealoglies (eg: no one in the 70s knew what a furry was even when they existed at that time but now everyone knows cause INTERNET). Mst of us are very young we kinda don't have a first hand experience with how our previous generation had these two annoying class of political extremism, also the fact that this duality would have been less obvious (and less obnoxious) if the internet didn't exist.
With any media, the people perpertuatig it are often just ways angry people get money out of people who share their own opinions. Classic Tribe mentality.

2009 is the year that Social Justice academics as an insular group began to propagate in the public space and was dropped in the hands of uncritical clueless teenagers who decided socjus' dumb fucking jargon was a better way to express their feelings and justify their beliefs than actually learning to express their feelings or justify their beliefs.
2012 is probably a better estimate for critical mass and "the bandwagon" due to the sheer quantity of happenings and how hard the cause got shilled by profiteers and opportunists; given that "anti-sjw" is the reactionary position, that year generated enough fuel for the bonfire to kick off.

Obama's 2nd reelection made elements of the woke left think they had finally defeated the straight white male forever. The left gained victory after victory, culminating in Obamacare and SC mandated gay marriage recognition. They genuinely believed that the right wing was defeated forever thanks to demographics, and kept aggressively reminding people this. The more extreme activist elements online and offline ran out of shit to fight over, and as their old arguments based on fairness and compassion started losing steam, they decided to invent new and more ridiculous ideas to use in rhetoric.
Just as important to mention is the mutually reinforcing effect that closed online communities had on extremist ideas. The left was younger and more tech savvy, so their extreme elements had the upper hand, at least initially, when it came to leveraging power as online and irl society fused in the mid-late 00s.
The anti-sjws popped up as various elements of traditionally male nerd groups saw how rapidly they were being pushed out of positions of influence by upstarts with less talent or intelligence, but a raw will to power, who saw videogames and atheism as useful points for entryism of wokeness. These were perceived as easy targets for political entry compared to things like sports because male nerds are mostly pushovers.

Around 2010 from my recollection. Just recall in 2011 a relative was acting super woke and conspiratorial on Twitter (definitely a proto SJW) and that really bugged me to no end.
2014 is when it became mainstream. I'm not really expecting this to die down until the culture calms down. Tbh, I think Gen z at this point is going to be a bit more 50/50 with left and right, it's hard to tell though. SJWs are vocal but not as large as they appear. Also, many so called anti-SJW "liberals" act very irrational, more so than the conservatives. Look at Louis Le Vou for instance.
