How could it with the internet?
I worry about the young women that have discovered they can make good money cramming various items in their orifices online.
It pays good while you are young and pretty but it is a short ride and I doubt any are saving money.

My guess is it's another misplaced sex instinct. Some men actually like paying for their date, giving them gifts, etc. It shows their provider traits and it flexes their wealth.
