...because the idea is as bat shit crazy as anything I've ever come across.

I thought it just wanted to be friends?

Maybe it's in the Friend-Zone right now, but wants to get out, and does so in a very whiny, passive-aggressive way, while complaining to his friends that the shark only dates JERKS.

Or maybe the shark is a male and had a crush on the gal matinee and the matinee just friend zoned the shark and the shark is yelling out, "Noo!" just like Chris did at the mall when he found out that gal wasn't really into him romantically.
