Last week, I accidentally dropped something on my desktop computer. It instantly shut down and refused to boot up properly again. After some component testing, I figured that the graphics card, the most expensive fucking component in my poor boy rig, was the problem and most likely physically damaged. I didn't want to rush getting a replacement, for financial reasons but mostly because I absolutely hate doing research on consumer tech, trying to figure out which new thing is the best bang for my buck.
The miraculously happy ending to this story is that two days ago, I gave the whole thing one last chance to rise from the grave, cleaned everything individually, put it all back together and, lo and behold, it booted up and has been perfectly stable since then. "Dunno, it kinda just solved itself" is my favorite kind of solution.
