What's a good software for auto-tagging photos?

I need a software to go through somewhere above 500k images and tag them, preferably sorting them by the person photographed so I can put a name to the category.
Google used to have one called Picasa (I think) that worked really well, but I don't trust google like I did in my youth. If you've used it, something like that would be nice if it doesn't phone home. I'm poking around and going to try a few out, but if anyone has personal experience with a software, input would be appreciated.
I've gotten requests for all photos I have of someone or other for different things a few times this year and realized I have 250k photos on my machine and probably another 750k in backups. Need help.

Adobe Lightroom is capable of detecting and autotagging faces and then of course filtering/sorting by these. It's pretty good at its job too in my experience.

That's my primary software for editing, so I'm going to feel really dumb if the version I have installed has this and it works as a solution. Did not know this was a functionality it had.

Consider ExifTool, if you can handle a command line and batch files.
