Whatnot is an app for live auctions, mostly pop culture collectibles. Think cards (Pokemon, Magic, Sports), Funko Pops, etc. There is a host who runs a livestream showcasing whatever they are selling and the audience bids on the items.
I had a buddy suggest the app to me because he kept seeing individuals flip out when things would sell under what they're worth. It seems like the trend is infecting other brands as TikTok and Ebay have their own form of live auctions as well.
Many auctioneers will do giveaways. From what I understand this helps boost their streams in the algorithm. So for instance, a Pokemon card auctioneer will giveaway a rare card with the winner paying only the shipping. The hope is that this will attract more viewers and therfore more money for items. This does seem to be a flawed tactic and can lead to them flipping shit.
However, there isn't a ton of documentation of retards acting, well, retarded while they auction items. Surely there has to be some gems that are going undocumented.
As of now there aren't many YouTube channels that cover the topic. One called Rattle Pokemon that has shorts and a few longer videos. A channel called TheWhatnotGuide has uploaded shorts of Whatnot streamers as well.
