what exactly was it with the entersphere that it was nuked?
i wasnt there when it happened
Lots and lots and lots of autism.
That's the short version. The long version's like this:
Somebody made a thread about an Internet reviewer called the Mysterious Mr Enter who reviews episodes of Spongebob (among other things). In under a month the thread had grown to over 100 pages and loads of new users had signed up to discuss Enter. Null decided to make a subforum to house further discussion.
Within the first few days of the subforum's existence a bunch of Enter's fans had showed up and were starting fights that completely derailed threads across the subforum.
@Hellblazer and
@Alan Pardew went in and made a heroic effort to keep things on track but it was too late. The main problem was that Enter isn't a lolcow so people just ended up raging about his opinions on cartoons, and his fans and haters weren't interesting enough to have a subforum dedicated to them. After one final attempt to save the subforum, Null finally nuked it because it was a lost cause.
An example of how bad it was can be summed up in a thread Hellblazer made where he carefully explained how to deal with people derailing threads, i.e. reporting them and not allowing them to derail threads into flame wars. What happened in that exact thread? An Enter white knight showed up and people started arguing with him.
Of course, after the Entersphere was gone we had to deal with the tantrums from people who actually liked that hellhole. But that's another story...
