can someone be unemployed with no friends and still not be a loser overall?
many can still be a loser with a job friends and even a family.
Is it more how you affect the lives of the people around you?

Being discontent with one's lot in life and incapable or unwilling to do anything about it.
You're not a loser if you're genuinely content where you are. You're not a loser if you have a pathway to contentment which you're currently following.
You are a loser if you let yourself rot away in misery. You are a loser if you have a path to contentment but are too incompetent to follow it. If there is no path left for you to escape your misery then you've already lost.
