What is your weirdest homeless encounter?

I was walking out of an Aldi where, when I walked in, there were two obviously homeless people camped out on blankets. Clearly, they didn't belong there, and maybe I should have called the cops or told the folks there were clearly hobos sitting outside.

Walking out, the woman of the pair approached me and said "Excuse me". I brushed her off because this is clearly trouble. She mutters behind me, "I just wanted to get the time."

Sure.

I hear her talking to someone else shortly after, saying with feigned outrage, "That lady over there..." (meaning me). I stopped paying attention to the rest of whatever she intended to accuse me of, because, even on the off-chance that man would actually believe this weirdo, what's he going to do? Stop me from driving off? Accost me and tell me to not do whatever it was I did? Call the cops on their behalf to press charges against me?

It's why I don't fuck with the homeless in my town. They want to start shit.

Story from a friend.

Basically he was known as "The Dollar man". He was an enterprising entrepreneur you see, a melanated individual who would go on the subways/rails and say

"Everything i's gots for sale is a dolla that's why theys calls me the dolla man. All a this one dolla. That's why they calls me the dolla man all for one dolla one dolla.... "

And he would sell shit like half a vape and other garbage he found in the trash. But his pitch was immensely well rehearsed and melodic. The way it was recited to me. I truly was there on my way to a job in a skyrise while also being harangued by a temporarily unhoused basketball American trying to sell me a pack of Skittles from 2017 for $1.

When I was a teenager, some huge Aboriginal homeless man grabbed my arm as I was walking alone in the city. He politely asked how I was doing and then asked if he could have 5 bucks so I was like yeah sure bro (the fuck was I going to do?). I grabbed my wallet and handed him the 5, stupidly revealing that I has a 20 in there too. He looked me in the eyes and asked if he could have some more so I obediently gave him an hour's wage, he let me go, and I continued on with my day.

About 25 years ago, when I was in school there was this ginger homeless dude pretty young maybe mid 20's and he would go around talking to himself so probably a schizo. Well one day I'm waiting for a bus, and he runs by me, and a few cops were following him because he was wearing a sock on his left foot and that was all he was wearing. Kind of felt bad for the guy because at least back then if you made a city cop run that meant you were definitely getting a beating for "Resisting Arrest".

Around 4 years ago, I was withdrawing cash from a truck stop ATM and some homeless tweaker comes up from behind and says he's mugging me. He's unexpectedly lacking any weapons.
The junkie is a hunched 5'3, 100 pound gremlin. I tell him to fuck off or get his ass beat. Weirdly stands up straight, says "okay" and strolls away like nothing happened.
Real life "Oblivion fight/peaceful music" moment.

I havent seen this in person, only after the fact on CCTV. But we will get homeless people pissing in the stairway/elevator tower of the parking garages of my town. Like they'll be sleeping on the 3rd floor, then go up to the 4th floor (top floor) and piss in the corner. Instead of riding the elevator DOWN and and pissing in the bushes outside.

I wish I still had pictures of this, but once I came across a makeshift hobbit hole that a homeless man created in a mound of dirt in the middle of a California field. Had a living room and a bed room, even a door too!

The homeless in California are on an entirely different level than anywhere else. For opsec reasons I wont say why but I had to walk through the middle of a homeless camp but its the worst, most abject poverty Ive ever encountered. I almost feel a little sad for some of them.

Lived downtown in a complete shithole.

It’s late at night and I want to get drunk. Closest place is a gas station where the bums tend to congregate. I walk over there, head on a swivel because I live in a shithole. I’m in line and I smell something like gasoline. No idea what the hell it is until a bum in a Miami Dolphins jacket starts rambling about “No one is gonna beat dem Fish” and I am confronted with the source. A black bum with fewer teeth than the front row of a NASCAR race and even fewer brain cells. What was already annoying turned into a burning blitz into my nose and I wanted to immediately flee as he rambled about a mid team. So, I humor him because getting drunk will be about the one thing that will soothe this terror as I wait for my turn to buy liquor from the jeet tending the register. I purchase my booze, get the hell out of there and promptly drown my mind.

I'm walking down a particularly empty stretch of sidewalk in that part of town. In the distance, a disheveled crackhead woman walking in my direction is rambling incoherently and I see her shout at a person walking past her. She continues rambling. I have to go that way, so I keep walking and steel myself for a confrontation as we approach each other. As she gets closer to me she stops rambling and mumbles what sounded like an apology.

When I was younger, I was hanging around with my high school d&d friend group, and we ended up running to a gas station near the school real quick.
There was always this larger black lady around it. She was homeless, and never seemed mentally all there. Any time she'd approach you she'd say it's her birthday and she'd like to buy something so "can I have a five." Of course the usual course of action is to say no and give her any food you got.
This day was different. She approached the car we're in, my friend's car (there were about 4 of us piled in there). And she recognized me, as well as one of the friends in the car with us. She recognized me simply because I frequented the station to pick up drinks during school hours and if I got a little extra pay, I'd nab her a drink like a sprite or coke. She said "I seen you before" or something along those lines. But she recognized my friend for a different reason.

He had shagged her.

All of us in disbelief look over to the boy who has a face of remorse.
She goes on about their encounter, telling us what the color the truck was (most certainly his dad's truck), not too long ago, and even in her mentally handicapped brain recognized what he looked like without his clothes on, (we had gone swimming with this man multiple times, dude's got a belly). The whole time he is quiet, with that look of "oh shit I got caught" painted across his pudgy face. It wasn't as if she were angry either, it was more so her just describing the act. No malice, no want for more, just her talking about how he shagged her in his dads truck. She sauntered off eventually after driver friend finished pouring gas, and we sped off while she accosted another person.

We aren't friends with him anymore, and she still frequents that gas station. His character was placed aside. He has become a creep (in the gross pervy way) since then, none of us keep contact.

As she gets closer to me she stops rambling and mumbles what sounded like an apology.
Aww damn mate, feel bad for the girl.

Had a similar encounter with a large melanated man outside a Popeyes (fried chicken restaurant for y’all outside the US). It was dark and like 11PM. He held his hand in his pocket like he was gonna pull a gun and asked me for a dollar.

I was high as fuck and didn’t really react. I just said “sorry bro I don’t have any money”, patted him on the shoulder and walked around him.

I’m kind of a gray man. It’s an internet tough guy concept for people who perpetually think the government is going to collapse. I happen to achieve this zen on accident by being sort of autistic.

I was in Vietnam for work, and me and two other people in my group that went over there were sitting at a table outside of our hotel, drinking beer (as we did every single day there, since Vietnamese beer is really good but that's beside the point). We're sitting there bullshitting and some shirtless old Vietnamese man walks over and starts talking to us. At first he's speaking English, saying "my English very good, I have big respect for English." Then he switches midsentence into Vietnamese and we have no fucking idea what he's saying, but then in the middle of what he was saying he'd say a few English words. When he was done talking he said "bye bye" and just walked off. It was very surreal.

I don't know if he was actually homeless, but he certainly gave off a "crazy homeless man" vibe.

Where I grew up, there were two homeless people, an older white gentleman who studiously collected cans from the trash receptacles on Main street to afford his daily ration of Steel Reserve, and a profoundly retarded but cheerful black man who would tell you stories of how he boxed gorillas in 'Nam if you picked him up on his travels and drove him to the grocery store. Which, judging by the gargantuan size of him and his profound retardation, I entirely believed.

So when I moved to the city, my perception of homeless people was that they were basically harmless NPCs. I saw no reason not to roll down my window and warmly offer the guy with a sign that said "HUNGRY, PLEASE HELP" a large plate of ham sandwiches. I even opened the conversation respectfully asking if he ate pork, because I also had a container of baked beans I was willing to part with, had the poor sap had religious restrictions.

He tucked gleefully into the sandwiches, and I bent over the passenger seat to retrieve the baked beans from the floor, commenting that the food was left over from a funeral, and it seemed a waste to just throw them away. I felt like a Very Good Person, until his face darkened like a storm cloud, and some instinct saved me a faceful of ham sandwiches because I let off the brake right as he CHUCKED THE PLATE VIOLENTLY AT MY CAR. Overhead, both hands. Rather stunned, I attempted to drive away from him and roll up my window at the same time, not saving me from a lapful of baked beans as I still had the container in my hands and crushed the styrofoam box between the steering wheel and my knee in my confusion.

After that, I patently stared through red light beggars like a stone-cold pro. It stung me, seeing homeless people with dogs or babies, hustling in all weather, but I never forgot the shame of standing next to my apartment building in baked-bean-streaked pants, next to my baked-bean-filled seat, looking like I had shit myself, while I tried to mop mayo and ham sandwich shards off of my back window with shitty convenience store napkins.

On the Elizabeth Quay Bridge in Perth a few weeks ago there was a homeless, bald, drug addict, white woman shouting nonsense and delivering a monologue to no one in particular (Meth is Perth's national sport). It was hard to follow along as she was high, but it was language like "I trusted you", "I will never forgive you", "You will burn in hell forever", etc. From context I assume she was cursing someone she used to be friends with.

She then threw a jacket into the river, which I assumed belong to said friend. As it anticlimactically fell to the water, hitting the surface without any impact, she then was inexplicably possessed by the spirit of Billy Mays as she screamed "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!", and then for the next few minutes continued to deliver condemnation and eternal damnation to whoever this person is in the style of a Billy Mays infomercial.

I live in the PNW so deal with the homeless daily. I guess my weirdest encounter was when I found a homeless guy laying next to my van on a sunny afternoon feverishly beating his dick on the sidewalk. He paused long enough for me to pass him, smiled at me and went back to beating his dick.

That same guy ended up being banned from the building I work in bc he asked for food and then proceeded to threaten my boss with a makeshift weapon.
