One New Year's Eve my next door neighbor brought himself Everclear which is 95% (190 Proof) alcohol. I expected it would taste so horrible but am pleasantly surprised that it doesn't taste like complete shit, only half that. But I only took like a sip of it may that be the reason. Which is just another way of saying it doesn't scare me enough to not try it again. It's second only beaten by Spirytus Vodka. And I was wondering if other people had alcohol this strong.

It's been several years but I had a Pernod absinthe that was 65% ABV. That'll do the trick, although the black licorice flavor of absinthe and other anise-based spirits just isn't my thing. Thankfully I didn't decide to light it on fire at any point.

Other than that, I always have mixed drinks and they don't really count. Drinking Bacardi 151 (RIP) sounds impressive until you mix it with enough Coke each time to make it wine strength.

80 something percent ethyl alcohol. I don't remember much of that night.

Just as a word to the wise, never drink anything above 190 proof/95% alcohol. That is the upper limit of the ability to separate ethyl alcohol and water, without using a chemical "Drying" agent like xylene or benzene, which are both quite toxic to humans, even in small amounts.

I never went beyond Wild Turkey 101 or Navy Strength rum, whichever is higher.

Some homemade, redneck grain alcohol (190ish proof, basically Everclear), served in a blue plastic tub, at a New Years' motel party my friends' deadbeat cousins organized when they were 21 and we were 17 or so.

Was not pleasant, and someone threw Joey Kowalski's eyeglasses, coated in a thick mixture of mustard, Mountain Dew, and ranch dressing, into the tub after only an hour, contaminating it.

Everclear usually measures about 151, what you got would more accurately be called Frog-Eye Shine according to proper hillbilly terminology. You're lucky you didn't go blind. Please say you did a burn test on that shit first, right?

Anyway, moonshine, unsure on number just "Overproof".

Everclear depending on state is 151 or 190. Graves is 195.... I've had graves so that.

Shine really depends on brewer, white lightning the fast stuff is what tends to get people sick, I had some contact 3 times removed, who you'd leave 50 dollars in a box in the woods and next day a gallon showed up.

I have no idea the proof but it tasted like white peach snapple and burnt so 100+ proof, a few shots you're done and for 50 was a steal.

When I was a poor fag in college we found a way to make a pint glass 30% everclear 50% gingerale 20% cranberry juice and they went down so smooth. How I remeber this or the ratio means I wrote it down in a drunken black out because 2-3 of them over a night you'd wake up well past noon missing half a class or so.

I have drank a lot of moonshine in my time. Not the like legal stuff that you can buy currently that is 100 percent, I use to get real shine from a guy and it would burn blue if you lit it on fire. It had no taste and a nice burn. I took a shot once and like couldn't speak and had to be walked to bed as I tried to sputter out words.

While we are talking high proof, as I mentioned before some states have a 151 proof rule, hence bicardi 151. There's also "navy strenght" in Plymouth gin, that was strong enough if you spilled on a cannon on a old sailing battleship wick it wouldn't kill the spark.... yes someone said, hey we get so drunk we spill gin on fucking canons lets drink less, no they said... just make the booze stronger.

I didn't test their tub of grain, no. I'd say I assume they tested it, but like I said - cousins were deadbeats. Their family had a long tradition of making pure grain alcohol for the holidays and drinking it out of tubs, but they were also mostly meth addicts, and in hindsight it was probably a stupid idea to trust them.

Nobody went blind or died, so I guess it was safe enough? Horrid and vile and not at all something I'd recommend even to a dumb teenager, but evidently non-fatal.

As for the name - have no idea. They just called it "grain", but sure, if Frog-Shine is the technical name, then Frog-Shine I guess?

I worked at a Duty Free store in high school, and we sold 40oz bottles of Clear Spring brand 190 proof grain alcohol. Sipped on a shot of that once. We also sold Lambs Navy 151 proof dark rum. Tried that and got to actually like it.

Also had some odd home brew Tequila down in the Baja Peninsula that was a relatively tame 90-100 proof. Damn good stuff that was.

Última edición:
190 proof Everclear, but the bottle was bought as a joke. We all took like half a shot. I have never got buzzed so fast in my life. One of my friends in college went to some frat party where they had Everclear jello shots. He woke up in the bathtub the next morning covered in his own vomit not having the first clue how he got there until someone told him what he did the night before.
