It's based on a musical called the Rocky Horror Show, Tim Curry played Dr. Frank-N-Further, the film and play's antagonist who crossdresses, and it launched his career. The movie was released in 1975 by 20th Century Fox/Studios, and earned about $1,000,000 at the box office. Since then, it gained cult status and has been rereleased years later. People often participate by using props on certain scenes, and do sing alongs.
Also noteworthy that it wasn't released on video until 1990!

It has an autistic cameo from the singer Meatloaf where he drives a motorcycle around then gets hit over the head, frozen, and canabalized.
Other than that Tim Curry plays a transvestite who fucks literally everyone, then gets shot by homo space aliens.
Tbh it sounds pretty epic on paper, but in practice its just a half musical load of tomfuckery, thus faggots and trannies adore it. 3/10

It's a musical turned movie musical; the film didn't do well on initial release. HOWEVER, it did well on the midnight movie circuit and from there it garnered a sort of word of mouth cult following that allowed it to become a big hit and pop cultural phenomenom. Especially with the "interactive" version; where a bunch of people who saw the film regularly at theaters came up with an "interactive game" where you yell stuff at the theater and bring/throw stuff at the screen.
The film's message ironically is pretty much anti-degeneracy; Frank N Furter is not a hero but a villain who does all sorts of bad stuff (rape by deception on Brad and Janet, mistreating his flunkies, abusive towards Rocky when his sex toy starts to disobey him, murdering Meatloaf TWICE and serving his flesh to Brad, Janet, and others). The final song even spells it out with Riff Raff telling him "his lifestyle's too extreme" for normal garden variety types like Riff Raff and Magenta, both of which come from a planet where crossdressing and androgyny is considered normal and socially accepted. It also shows the good and bad side of letting go of your sexual inhabitions: Brad has a nervous breakdown while Janet embraces being slutty.
In that regards it's pretty red pill in the idea that while some fetish/crossdressing is OK and healthy, that when you go overboard and start forcing it onto others, then you go to far.

A movie my mom will go nuts over if you even speak of it. She spent her 20's going to screenings of it. It was the 80's, so everyone was either gay or a proto-troon.

I played the game (as a kid) on the C64 long before I even knew it was a movie. I never did finish that fucking thing, and I didn't understand why the characters got naked or syringes were flying around the screen, just thought it was funny, I'm sure if my parents knew they would've gone mental, but that's what happens when you get a box of disks from an older cousin.
