What is the origin of Blood libel?

It's the usual case of some kid goes missing and whoever was responsible blanes the Jew and the retarded populace believe it, or a Jew doing fucked up shit and people deciding that in that case it represents the entire community.
 
Blood libel is what's called a black legend. Basically it's a big bullshit narrative invented to justify the treatment of a contesting power or unruly minority group to either the general populace or to other nations. Blood libels didn't really get started until the Crusades began in which Christian supremacy was the objective. So let's say some Jews are settled on some land you want, you can't really justify pushing them out for your own selfish gains, unless it happened they were doing something monstrous to warrant a brutal removal from those lands.

These people occupying these lands we want just so happen to eat babies, how convenient.

In case you're wondering if these accusations had any truth to them, Diego de Landa would make his own blood libel accusation toward the Maya called the Sotuta Confessions when bishop Francisco de Toral came to the Yucatan peninsula to investigate allegations that Diego was torturing people over false conversions. Diego alleged that children were being ritualistically sacrificed in the town church of Sotuta at night, specifically first by crucifying them & then tearing their hearts out. He had been trying to extract confessions for months at this point, and he only just got these "confessions" when his superior arrived to pass judgement over him. Tearing hearts out is an Aztec black legend, by the way, and Diego's description was almost an exact match to a similarly bullshit claim about Jewish conversos in 1491.

Blood libel isn't an accusation made solely at Jews, but basically any problem subjects to an empire.
 
People in the Middle Ages were generally ignorant and credulous. Same reason they got tricked into chopping their balls off by the Cathars.

Not the least because Jews were often a problem subject because the noble Christian kings had a bad habit of borrowing money they couldn't repay and needed an easy way to stiff their lenders.

From looking online there isn't some deep Jewish lore is, but the author taking Christian sources at their word and reaching that it might have been some revenge stunt rather than the whole "eating Christian boy blood" libel.

It's always ridiculous how a single Jew with contrarian opinion is taken as gospel. While when a Christian does it he is a heretic.
 
Their track record of doing other things meriting expulsion certainly does not help their cause either. I would even be willing to respect them a little if they just fessed up and owned the horrible things they do.
