Useful is very subjective. For me personally though, it would have to be one that happened in April last year. I made a lot of friends and had a lot of fun because of it.
Overall I'd say Mass Debates is of a significantly lower quality than Deep Thoughts. I got new thread notifs on for both and the likelihood of a well-thought-out OP is much higher in the latter than the former.
Now this is the lowercase L lnternet, so people dare to shitpost in both places, and I wish moderation were stricter and faster, esp. in Deep Thoughts.
In terms of usefulness, I'd consider a discussion useful if I learn something new and/or change my mind on something. Or if it advances a goal I find desirable. I don't think I can point at any one single most useful thread in that regard, but I try my best with every thread I see
KF users often have too much autism to change their mind on anything or concede a point when proven wrong so 'arguments' on here tend to suck. The best Mass Debates threads are the ones that cause drama
It's a real dumb shitposting board when it isn't a containment board for 2 minutes of hate or laughing at a self immolation thread. I wonder sometimes if it is better to not have containments from TDS/TES and Gender-Hate threads: the more deranged users of both can look through post history & pick fights with the others in unrelated threads. Or they get so comfortable they say some absolutely stupid shit outside their designated threads and null is mad because he has to clean up an avoidable mess.
I think it is fun to laugh at others and to have pointless debates, but it seems clear that like terminally online mad social media boomers & zoomers, too much debate time/anger/hugboxing is bad for people. This board is shit but still serves a good purpose half the time, and you know it is shit going in so it adjusts expectations and can be fun shitposting as well as detrimental.
