Let's Sperg What is the most kino game?

Phantom Dust.
OG Xbox game, ported to Windows 10 and free on the microsoft store. (Xemu might be able to emulate it by now with Vulkan support, haven't tried.) Third person real time arena action/card game. Yes, I hate card games too, but it plays nothing like a conventional card game.
Fucking play it.

Star Wars Galaxies.

When I say modern MMORPGs aren't real MMORPGs due to their reliance on mindless busywork and their lack of real social elements that are neccessary for gameplay, people who don't remember a time before WoW get confused. Let me show you the real example of a great MMORPG.

1000006347.jpg

Before MMOs became glorified Diablo Clones with tacked on multiplayer elements, MMORPGs were games with mechanics that fostered, encouraged, and required a cohesive social network that resulted in a dynamic and player driven sandbox.

SWG features player housing, player run cities, open PvP over teritory through the Galactic Civil War social classes like Entertainer and Doctor who interacted with the community and gave the best buffs. If you didn't talk to those players you got nothing and thus weren't playing optimally. Encouraging being social. SWG had the best crafting in any game ever. Instead of Good resource < better resource < best resource you had to do surveys to find out about resources with different properties. Then find out how to combine them into items with the stats you're looking for. There were thousands of different resources across several planets and multiple different ways to harvest them.

To be a good crafter required experimentation and insider knowledge. Beyond armour and weapons you had droids, furniture, clothes, spaceships, and buildings. And because of the way the XP worked you had to specialise. Meaning different crafters had to fill different niches and rely on each other to fill gaps. This also meant reputation was everything and if you were a sperg with a bad attitude you didn't get far. Actual social consequences for your bad behaviour that wasn't just powertripping jannies banning you for wrong think? No wonder the game flopped. 1000006349.jpg

If you got bored of the base game you could go out into space which was a fully functional space sim inspired by X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Also it had seemless multicrew spaceships with complete interiors in 2004 whilst Elite Dangerous struggles to add space legs to barren and featureless planets in 2025.

Also SWG in it's original form was classless. You had a limited amount of points to put into whatever skill trees you wanted. So you had to specialise. Of course when people figured out the grind to unlock Jedi everyone started doing that instead of playing the game. The Combat Upgrade could've fixed this but was a half measure. The NGE was a bad and heavy implementation of the good idea to address the fans request to fix SWGs many problems with combat and questing. But pre CU, CU, and NGE are all better MMORPGs than WoW. I will die on this hill.

What drew me to SWG back in the day was this feeling of having the whole Star Wars galaxy in my computer. Where I could make my own unique story that arose from playing in a dynamic sandbox of other real and reactive people. And not be led around the nose through a mediocre at best pre made story like the later TOR. If you want a cozy Star Wars sandbox. There's no better game than SWG.

If you want to play I recommend either:

Legends
For a straight beginner friendly look at the latest most casualised but still fun version of the game just as it shut down. It's the easiest version of the game to pick up and play for people unfamiliar with SWG. At one point Legends was infamous for it's power tripping jannies but that seems to have died down over the past five years. Out of all servers it's probably the most populated one. I never struggled to find friends there.

Or

Restoration(Formerly Restoration 3)
IMO this is the definitive version of SWG how it should've been. At least on paper. The devs took the NGE version of the game and modded it to add in most of the Combat Upgrade gameplay and mechanics. What you get is a hybrid of CUs classless freeform skill trees and combat plus the NGEs new content and quests. You have to unlock Jedi and the system to do so on paper is interesting and original. If a bit esoteric and luck based. Unfortunately the server pop is small. Mostly down to the bad attitude of some of the Jannies and Devs scaring people away. But I still recommend this server to people who want to see a version of SWG that could've been if SOE weren't so good at ruining good ideas.

Conker's Bad Fur Day
Some will disagree but it's the best N64 game and a legit piece of true and honest art.
It was way ahead of it's time.
Why play it?
Here's why:

Don't forget the multiplayer. What other game has mode where you have a team of Nazi Teddy bears shooting rockets and using machine gun turrets to stop extremely racist caricatures of French squirrel refugees from escaping up a beach?

Jagged Alliance 1, DG & 2
The personalities of the mercs makes this amazing. The way they interact with each other, like each other, hate each other, sometimes murder each other (Reuben was really missed after the first game, what a psychopath) and the way the relationship changed betwen games (In DG Lynx and Buzz were friends and even lovers, they broke up, so in the second game Buzz spews out a ton of anti-male sexism and if you have her and Lynx in the squad it's a war of words). In 1995 it was just amazing to have talking soldiers with a personality, X-Com came out a year before and the soldiers there are voiceless, faceless cannon fodder for example.
Also some really funny moments, like sending flowers to Deidranna in JA2.
It's one of the best turn based strategy games ever. Also has a really great modding scene (JA2 especially of course with 1.13)

JA3 is ok too, but nowhere near the level of JA2 but of course better than all the dreadful crap that came in between.
Fuck yeah JA2 ruled hard.

Lost Oddysey. Yeah it's not super special in terms of the main story but the dream sequences and intro are 10/10 kino and it still looks great.

Bioshock. An indisputable masterpiece of top notch writing that tells a philosophical and emotional story that basically just spells out why humanity will never be able to create a true utopia due to their own narcissism and greed (which you will only fully understand on your second playthrough because there's things you'll probably miss the first time such as hidden audio logs) all spread out over one of the coolest, most original and beautiful game worlds ever created. The gun play is dated because the game is almost 20 years old but everything else about it is an easy 10/10. If this game got remade I would fucking cum. A Bioshock made in native 4K with top tier lighting effects and water textures/physics and expanded slightly reimagined environments would be a instant pre order for me and I don't preorder shit. The only thing that could make this game better is for there to be more of it. I'm not going to post any footage of it, it you haven't played it before just get the 4K collection on steam and go in blind.

Those damn Kiwi Farmers are not mentioning Postal 2 and it's making me so angry!

Postal 2 is the most kino game and it's not even close. When I think kino I think of a pee mechanic and there's only one game I've ever seen that has that. I don't see anyone else in the thread talking about gameplay like this.
Fallout 1-2. Post-apocalypse in retro-futuristic world with anti-establishment and punk flavour. US Government and US Armed forces are the main bad guys in a game, made in USA, how much more kino can you get?
Fallout 1-2 are pretty kino, they let you do all types of things games these days wouldn't let you. Kill children, sell people into slavery, become a drug addict, become a mass murderer, become a porn start. Most of this is in 2, it's crazy that they let you do this type of stuff in the game.
