I'ma be real chief, evolution just sorta has these traits that happen randomly. If you are able to pass down your genetics, you're successful. That's all that is required in nature. If you don't live to breeding age, are unable to breed, or your children don't come to reproduction, that's what murders your lineage. A lot of random crap evolves along the way, both good and bad.

Here are a few articles pondering this over. Dates are 2024, 2025, 2017, and 2011 as autism theories and understanding have developed overtime. My personal guess for higher functioning autism is that some of these traits can be actually helpful or seen as valuabe by potential partners. Lower functioning autism almost never gets a date so they tend not to pass it on, aside from literal low IQ in nursing homes. If the baby can be taken care of or is mostly normal, the genes survive and carry on. If the genes aren't or an unfit parent loses the child, they're not. I make a difference between the two categories since one can function and the other has to be taken care of. There's some conditions where there is no evolutionary benefit, like downs syndrome or heaven forbid, huntington's disease, but genes are weird and will do random bullshit. We're in an age where we can expect most children who are born to survive to adulthood and many former death sentences like diabetes are now normal conditions. We forget we sometimes adapt around it thanks to technology.

It didn't evolve. What we call "autism" can more readily be described as Vaccine-Induced Brain Damage. Hence why there are no records of this existing, beyond the copes of comparing eccentric historical figures who were likely schizophrenic to some degree (such as Tesla) to modern autists.

I just don't see what purpose this behavior provides in the wild.
In times long ago, autists made for powerful court wizards. The more powerful the autism, the more powerful the wizard. Court wizards were very powerful indeed, capable of creating machinery that rains fire from the sky and other terrifying things. They used to be respected and get many bishes.
Nowadays, there are simply too many autists and thus their value has lowered significantly. Only the highest tier autists can enjoy the spoils of an olden court wizard.
