If that would have happened, he probably might have driven Barb and Bob insane with unwanted attention. He had no friends at all that lived near him, he was too weird to have any close friends, I don't think he could have wrapped himself up in a world of complete traditional boomer media like books or radio, he wouldn't be able to resist the temptation of the internet and everything else that was happening in the modern world.
For instance, we already know that when they confiscated his internet access briefly he went into the local libraries and spent some time in them to compensate for his time he couldn't spend on the internet at home.

I only read the first Mistborn in 2015 (loooooooooooooong book). Chris can't seem to comprehend beyond chapter books like Goosebumps and Fear Street despite his claims for his own workforce telling you "you must have reading and writing skills completed on a middle school level or more as a requirement to work for me". Yes, indeed. He should've read the Percy Jackson series as a starter for fantasy rather than this like you @Monolith said.
