What do you live for? - What keeps you going through thick and thin?

I like making things and fixing things. I also really like lifting up rocks, plant pots, etc in the yard to see what kind of bugs are running around. Sometimes I dig a small hole in the yard to see what creatures are there. I also work with rescue animals.
 
We’re here for some reason, might as well hang on and see if any good can come from it. You can always kill yourself if things get rough but you can’t un-killyourself so enjoy everything while it lasts.

Mischief. I like messing with people or weirding them out. It brings me joy. Even if it's something small like bringing a raw unpeeled potato to work for lunch and eating it like an apple and acting like that's a normal thing to do. It seems to make people uncomfortable and I enjoy that.

There’s people in my life who rely on me to care for them, both financially and domestically. I couldn’t abdicate my responsibility and devotion to them without feeling like a detestable person. I focus on doing what I can to make them comfortable in their time of need, and that brings me some measure of comfort knowing they have one less thing to worry about.

And cats. Cats are nice.
 
There are wonderful things in the world and I can't be there to experience them if I'm gone. A lot of those things might just be birds, but that's besides the point.

Also parents having to see their kids die before they do is fucked up.
 
I'm an absolute terrible person and the possibility that my death might somehow improve another's life fills me with a wicked determination.
 
When you're in the woods and you find that one really big old gnarled tree that you know is watching over the whole area and you go up to it and you're keenly aware that it's hundreds if not thousands of years old and will see more in its stationary life than you'd see if you travelled the whole globe and you feel extremely small and humble.

That and a perfectly poured pint.
 
To live.
Being alive is always better than dying, because you have a life to live. You have the opportunity of doing something, and that opportunity is always better than not having it.
Of course there's other things like having a relationship and hobbies, but that's the main thing that REALLY keeps me going.
