replaying Earthbound for the millionth time. I downloaded an emulator to my mobile phone and playing it that way. it's not as good as having a controller but at lest I can play earthbound.

Played Doom 3 for the first time. Having a lot of fun with it. Also downloaded Blood from Steam. So far, it's a fun game that is similar to Duke Nukem 3D.

With my computer going the way of the dodo, I'm currently playing Bureaucracy, a text adventure game written by Douglas Adams and released by Infocom in 1987. It's witty, bloody hilarious, and ever so frustrating at times.

the new alien game is britty good. i love the series so i wanted a better game than colonial marines, and i got it.

the fucking alien though man. run under a vent? get caught in the air duct? turn on your flashlight? instant death, no manual saving so have fun redoing a bunch of looting and crafting.

it does a pretty good job of making enemies feel dangerous and forcing you to be prey, instead of a predator like most stealth games. guns kill you quick, androids take a ton of bullets or specialized gear, don't even try fucking with the alien.

Doom 3. Finally gotten the Soul Cube. Now I just have to stop the forces of Hell before the reinforcements arrive with their ships from Earth.

I got back to Dark Souls today, after a few-months-long hiatus caused by my graphics card giving up due to overheating and me fixing it by baking it in an oven.

This part of my previous post is pretty hilarious in hindsight. I'm currently not playing anything. I believe it's easy to guess what happened...

Spoiler: Dark Souls

I spent about two hours fighting Kalameet solo. My graphics card then decided it's had enough, about a minute after I struck the final blow. Worth. Also, great timing.

I got his tail. Artorias' Greatshield is ridiculously overpowered for this purpose. It can block pretty much anything, even the fire breath attacks do very little damage. I mean, it's not Havel's Greatshield, but ain't nobody got strength for that. Then you just wait for the tail smash attack and whack at it until it falls off.

I then killed Kalameet in about 5-6 tries using what might be my new favourite setup: the Painting Guardian set, Zweihander +15, no shield, and no backup weapons/shields/accessories. It looks good on my warrior and the armor is apparently skin-tight, so it accentuates his severe case of DAT ASS. It offers no poise, so you'd better dodge the attacks or be punished. I have enough endurance that I can fast roll with that equipment.

Ultra Greatsword combat feels wonderfully weighty, the blows cause the camera to shake, the enemies get smashed to the ground or launched upwards, and the weight of the weapon can send you tumbling off ledges if you're not careful. The damage is phenomenal if the hit connects, too. It's perfect, I love it!

Sadly it's just the same campaign with the choice being which one to play, although it's still fun.

Just found Woodruff and The Schnibble of Azimuth under some of my old textbooks. It was the first point'n'click adventure game I've completed, and haven't played it in like 10 years. The nostalgia gets me right in the feels.

I'm currently very much enjoying The Evil Within.

It's not without it's flaws, and despite playing on PS4, it looks and runs like a previous gen game. That said, as a massive Resident Evil 4 fan, it's scratching an itch that Resi 5 and 6 failed to do, no surprise when you consider it's also directed by Shinji Mikami.

Playing Dark Souls 2. I surprised myself in doing a plunging attack against a giant in one of the giant memories. Needless to say, I found it to be awesome.

Oddly enough I got my PS2 controller to original Xbox plug out and started to play Halo Combat Evolved.

I'm still surprised how much I enjoy playing it. Mostly due to it's simplicity, effective map design and weapon balance.

What I mean with Halo was that all the weapons were balanced toward specific roles.

I mean say what you will about the Pistol I still found myself constantly swapping weapons out for new ones. And it was one of the first FPS games where I legitimately liked using every single weapon.

Prior to Halo I remember FPS games usually had a single "good" weapon that you used and never used anything else. Even with Halo you occasionally had to swap the pistol out (to fight specific enemies like Elites or Hunters) or didn't have access to it on certain levels (Truth and Reconciliation comes to mind, I couldn't remember using the pistol on that level). Or in others like Assault on the Control Room I rolled with the sniper rifle and the rocket launcher.

The pistol's like all-around a fantastic weapon in that game, but a lot of people choose to rely on it the whole time. Personally the Assault Rifle in Halo 1 was my favorite for the 60 ammo clip spray. Just wish the gunfire didn't sound like someone's spitting out peanut butter.
