I think Bryke confirmed they’re going to make their casting as authentic as possible in response how Paramount handled the casting for the movie. While this has assured a number of fans, there are many other uphill battles for the TV series.
As for who’s getting the gay stick, given how Kiyoshi was revealed to be bi in the comics, Toph seems another likely candidate. Azula could be their Catra and be redeemed through a lesbian romance.

Yep! Incidentally Tom has mentioned he never pictured his character having a silly/goofy voice such as what they did for this cameo with using Howard Morris. He suggested the voice could have an Australian accent with some duck characteristics.

Nickelodeon went off the air for 8 minutes and 46 seconds due to George Floyd. Alongside this text wall played no sounds other than several noises of police brutality and someone (not Floyd AFAIK) heavily breathing, saying "I can't breathe", symbolizing the amount of time the police officer held down Floyd for as he was saying those exact same words.
People have responded to this with mass anger saying that it scarred their kids and scared them as they were middle of watching SpongeBob, with people/Nickelodeon on Twitter saying in response to this: "Good, you should be scared".
