Makes me sad that young people (who are likely now adults) gravitate toward media about depression and crying.
Maybe it's a sign of the times that all of our media is about being scared and sad and needing reassurance. As far as Inside Out goes, I think it gets a bit of a pass with portraying depression, or crying, or whatever, not just because it was the first big movie to do it (or one of the first,) but because the core question of the movie is "Why do we need sadness?" After all, Joy repressing Sadness at every turn is what causes the main conflict, and realizing Sadness has a reason to exist is what gets her to stop being such a busybody and go get Sadness, bring them both back, and let Sadness do her job (which fixes everything.) It's overplayed NOW, of course, but it's not like there's no room for children's/family media about being sad, or why it's okay to feel the way you feel.

It was also Pete Docter's response to seeing his daughter become introverted when she became a teenager because she used to be extroverted and rambunctious as a child. So in a sense, it was a father exploring his daughter's inner feelings, and then telling her it's okay to have those feelings as they all need to work/blend together so you can be you. That's why Riley's growing depression was so tense as she began to shut down, because that's exactly how depression works. Someone (Docter or whoever) who worked on the storyboards knew just how to visually portray it for anyone (children especially) to understand how it looks. It's not "realistic anxiety attacks", it's nothingness.

Inside Out really is a gem in the sea of shit that was rising in that time. It's exactly the kind of movie so many indie developers have tried to portray only to fail miserably because they never wanted to teach these lessons to children, they just wanted self-validation.

And another Genndy Tartakovsky venture is announced, being another Adult Swim show.

Third season was better than the second season tbh. But Primal season 2 basically was a Conan The Barbarian show. If they can do that again it'll be peak.
I remember Conan being portrayed as more of a force of nature than a human being. I think Genndy will fail to deliver on that because he tends to always give his characters soft spots, and the Barbarian is supposed to have none whatsoever. He's a thief/conquerer, larger-than-life character, and I can't recall Genndy ever directing one of those.*

I'm sure it'll be pretty decent regardless; he'll likely fuse his Primal lead with Samurai Jack. It just won't be true to the Conan of the pulp stories.

*Even Aku (the shape-shifting master of darkness) isn't larger than life. Aku isn't like Napolean, where there's stories of him winning over whole columns of soldiers with a single speech. Instead he's cajoling, bribing, coercing, destroying, using subterfuge etc.

Every Conan comic is basically just Conan drifting into a new place, learning the local customs, and then going "By Crom, you people are savages!" before mounting the local leader's head on a pike.

I know we only have posters to go off of so far but between this and Conan why is fixed starting to look like genndy had to work on it as either a Hollywood humiliation ritual or cause the mortgage on his house needed to be paid off?

It was a pet project that spent too long to get off the ground. He was too enamored about the idea to realize it was a miss.

I think he wanted to make something akin to Fritz the Cat, but fucked up. As for these two new projects, Primal was already halfway Conan so it should be fine. No idea about the frogs. He's one of the few, if not the only one remaining Western animator that can actually work a damn and doesn't use Cal-Arts to boot, so they should be fine.

wife isn't that into Conan or Genndy but def agrees they're probably really great for each other
