Anyways, disneys newest movie trailer is out and it sucks ass as expected. Disney really is just super incompetent when it comes to making original stuff. Their last 2 decent and successful outputs are moana (which at least had maui folklore to borrow from) and encanto, with both being hard carried by lin manual miranda music. This is definitely gonna be another raya or wish.
"All my life, I felt that something was wrong and different about me..."
"Ew, she's wearing normal teenager shoes!"
"But maybe there's nothing wrong with me after all!"

It feels like they're trying to draw in Owl House fans with the "awkward girl goes to another world" premise. Just with none of what people liked about that show.

Most of which wasn't very good.

But hey, we're going to get yet another story from an oriental about how her mommy never hugged her and she secretly has woowoo oriental magical powers. So hooray for that I guess.

Honestly the woowoo oriental magical powers from turning red mightve been preferable, looking at the trailer and the cast this is gonna be about a mystery meat biracial jewess exploring generic european fantasy bs bringing not even some cultural dressing to the table.

The best example of this that I can think of is the Wendigo and the Skinwalker, which are two entirely different things from two entirely different tribes who never once met each other prior to the white man, and the Wendigo in the original myth looked and acted very similar to a Wight and never had any form of animal features until the past couple decades or so.
I had an idea for a series based around Wendigos, but in my research the more accurate thing I was looking for was the "wechuge," which is similar but just different enough it'd piss off every native ever if I got it wrong, because of course it would.
That's the biggest barrier, to me, towards doing actual black/native/whatever mythology, is that everyone gets butthurt 5000 when you aren't making a literal goddamn documentary. Pocahontas was inaccurate as fuck but it was beautiful, but that's not enough for people. You can't make Dances With Wolves because it's a "white savior" story, you can't use skinwalkers and wendigos because it's offensive for some reason, it's like, all you can do is a 1:1 exactly factual story, or you can get fucked. And these groups didn't exactly write things down, or have major consensuses on things, so when you'd be compelled to make stuff up to fill in the gaps like any storyteller would, now you're going to make everyone mad. You can't win.

100% this felt like The Owl House with all the tumblr removed. Of course, without the tumblr there's nothing left but the husk of Harry Potter.

Which is why the correct response is to say "it's fiction it isn't supposed to be 100% accurate, you whiny bitches." You know, like these exact same people say whenever someone raceswaps a white mythological figure

I was waiting for Forespoken to get a film adaptation.

Whenever you're dealing with a group like the blacks or the injuns who have a massive inferiority complex and also probably don't know their own mythology you just do your thing and ignore them. They're going to whine and bitch no matter what you do so fuck 'em. This is especially true with blacks and injuns though because western blacks have no culture of their own besides the statement "We do the opposite of what white people do" so they have no right to complain since African culture is in no way their own and western black culture is shallow, and the injuns are so fractal and granular that picking on one tribe may actually endear you to all their neighbors. No injun is going to shed tears if you decide to pick on the Apache or Comanche, for instance.

holy shit that IS depressing. (:_( makes you wonder what happened to make her life that tumultuous.
