Were there any mainstream internet lolcows?

Doesn't have to predate the internet only has to be before the web was popularised, aka before mainstream social media and mobile phone (I'm thinking if I should consider Nokia as one but I would prefer to say before mobile phone with touch screen but I ain't sure). Would also like to hear about pre world wide web cows

The earliest one that I could think of that blew up was the Star Wars kid, and that came out before Facebook. There weren't really so much lolcows, because in my mind to be a lolcow you have to keep it going. I mean you would always get an email from your friends or in an AOL chat room about "hey look at this dumb fucks angelfire page" but it wasn't like we were interacting with them.
Honestly I think the original lolcows before social media were juggalos, because nothing is funnier than a bunch of obese wiggers in clown makeup listening to bad rap.

I thought it was just a YT video the star wars kid like I didn't even knew it predated facebook, if only I wasn't young for an adult and was from the US or in general the anglosphere. I know I'm ranting million times about it but it just keep bothering me. If you're American you won't get just how much unimaginably boring is the internet outside of the US, especially in small countries

Oh yeah I just looked it up the Star Wars kid was in 2003, he predated Facebook and YouTube. We got our first look at him back when you just downloaded funny videos off of file sharing sites or somebody emailed it to you.
Basically in the late 90s and early 2000s how we got our laughs at other people's expense was a lot of people had home pages through geocities or angelfire. It had some of the FUNNIEST shit. When it came to actually messing with people and having them react to it and milking them for lols, basically all you had to do was go into any AOL chat room and call a girl fat. They would lose their fucking MINDS. And the best part was you had no idea what they looked like.

Damn I missed on a lot from back in the day 😿
Can't there just be time machine so I can go back time and be reborn in the anglosphere? If only there was a way so this would happen

Life was the shit before about 9/11. I'm not saying that 9/11 is what caused the change in our culture, I'm just saying that around that time is when the downfall of our culture started to happen.

I know about the site but a lot of sites are dysfunctional there whether it's sub URLs not saved, redirection of URLs, content require you to sign in etc...
Yeah I never really used it, I just kind of go off of memory because I was lucky enough to have been there. There might be some videos on YouTube that document how wild the internet was in the 90s. It really was lawless, and unfortunately we're never going to have it like that again. The internet became corporate.

Maybe there will be an invention even bigger than the internet? I mean there has to be in the IT age

I can say with honesty that this place feels very late 90s. Anonymity, freedom to speak your mind, etc. I used a couple of message boards before I came here but I was always familiar with kiwi farms. I just never really made an account because I was on something awful, but I was so galvanized by the Ukrainian girl stabbing and Charlie Kirk being assassinated that I was like "Okay I have to go to Kiwi Farms, because I literally cannot vent the way that I want to anywhere but there"

I feel like I cannot even vent here because a lot of people here are mad for sharing my own personal stories. I get the occasional banter, what I don't get is why so many people here like to be rude for no apparent reason, it's like people are using freedom of speech for the stupidest of things when we could've done way better stuff. Also what else brought you here? For me I got here from another farm site

I've just been on something awful for a really long time and I heard about this place. You can get banned very easily from something awful, which I always thought sucked.
I wanted to come here earlier but everybody was telling me that they are ban happy here, which in my opinion has been complete bullshit because I haven't seen anybody get banned yet.

My first ISP was Prodigy, but it was structured a bit differently, it was a bit like AOL I think. Basically there were a bunch of forums, some MUDs cause internet was too shit to run any type of game with graphics, and you had to pay premium to browse the WWW. One of these forums was called Jane's, it was for teenage girls to discuss fashion and shit like that, I think Jane's was some sort of teen fashion company that eventually turned into what's now Delilah's. Anyways, this is when the internet is fairly new to homes, and no one realized what having a space for teenage girls would do, and it wasn't long before the whole thing was infested with perverts and proto troons.

One interesting thing that happened on the forums though, was on the book forum, Christopher Pike, who was the less popular R.L. Stine joined and one of the people didn't think he was the real author so he made him a character is his next book and he apologized to Christopher Pike.

This is one of the earliest lulzy things I remember seeing on the Internet. A Turkish dude looking for love in the pre-smartphone era.

As for actual lolcows, I vaguely remember a website made by a Swedish woman in the mid-late '90s who claimed to be in love with a guillotine (iirc she called herself "Madame Guillotine", but that search term brings up nothing about the woman I'm thinking of). Sadly this page may be lost forever.

And I missed on all of that like damn

I remember that I thought that dude was Indian lol. That shit is so old school I was still living in Australia when it came out.

Things burned out faster before smartphones and youtubers. You'd get something very funny like Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey, if she'd had youtube she probably would have turned into a permanent cow instead of (I think) moving to Costa Rica.

There was always funny gay dating drama on lj too, there was one incident that I wish I remembered better that I think may have been the first time someone took unhinged voicemails and set them to music.

Oh there was Julia Allison. A lot of the early early cows like her are sort of documented on GOMI but that site is impossible to use.

OH and there were *amazing* fandom cows - I haven't thought about this in years and looking there seems to have been some kind of disaster in the archiving communities. What a loss to humanity.

Something Awful had a front page(!) and it would always have an Awful Link Of The Day, which would usually link to some eccentric's personal website.
There were others on early YouTube like the Numa Numa Guy, who was just a fat lad dancing to Dragostea Din Tei, and MySpace had people like Jeffree Star and Tila Tequila.
The paedos caught on To Catch A Predator were usually mocked, as well as people finding them scary. A mix of lolcows and horrorcows, and some have threads here now.
