Like, if you're a colonizer and you colonize a country and you don't know their language how can you know what their equivalent of "no" is? + It's not like european nations had this idea that they had a moral/paternalistic claim to the world meant to try to help those less well off but we just didn't know they only wanted gibs only if they were independent.
