Think I'm in the minority when I say I actually did like these tales. Fun little short stories that, while they do have many holes once you look deep enough, have some really fun premises to carry them
First story almost reads as a joke, like ha ha I accidentally killed my annoying wannabe youtuber neighbor while he was doing a stupid YouTube prank. It's dated, but the punchline lands.
Second story had a real interesting take on demonic possession (at least that's what I interpreted it as). To think that the demons are so alien to us that when they hijack our bodies they turn it into something abominable. I think where it falls flat is how it both runs too long and too short to deliver a truly satisfying ending. Either keep the story lean and reveal that all pigeons across the world were replaced by these invaders, or make the reveal that they can take over humans, maybe with the protagonist's fate being left ambiguous as to if he managed to escape or not. For that, it doesn't make any sense that it would happen in a big city like Toronto. Better to set it in an isolated, kurozu-cho-type town in the middle of nowhere.
If there was any one story they've covered that deserves to be adapted into a short film, it'd be the third story. I know Hunter's said that a lot, but I mean it this time. The writing and characters are there, the build-up is really clever, and the premise is so uniquely bizarre it leaves you wanting more. That's really all there is to say.
