I think the Australian actress Dichen Lachman is both beautiful and incredibly weird looking.

Maybe its because most peoples eyes are roughly at the midpoint of their head and not 3/5s up.

Agreed. Wide set eyes don't make someone look weird on their own, but they compound weird stylist choices.
