they're basically the 90s zappa
Ween apparently didn't like Zappa.

Dean: “We didn’t go to Nashville to make fun of these old country legends,” Dean says. “We went there because we love that music and we wanted them to be part of it. We wouldn’t go down there to make fun of it. There are bands that are sarcastic and I don’t like it. I don’t like Frank Zappa for that one reason alone. A lot of times he’s making fun of this genre he’s playing — there’s no doubt that he loves it or whatever but it’s almost showoff-y. It’s not sincere enough for me.”

Gene: "When I was a kid I had influences like The Beatles, and not so much Frank Zappa but more Mothers of Invention stuff he did before he went solo."

Their live shows are amazing. Love how they don't use the same setlist. You could definitely see the divide in fanbase on what they like ween for.
I was the only one singing along to Mister Richard Smoker and Ocean man.

Favorite song: Booze me Up and Get me High

I love Ween but I really just can't get into any of the albums prior to Chocolate and Cheese, I've tried many times because I know sometimes a Ween album takes a while to grow on you. In my case La Cucaracha took a few listens before it really grew on me, I didn't like White Pepper at first because it sounded too 'poppy' but later grew to like it, but I just can't make The Pod, GWS or Pure Guava click for me. That probably makes me a fucking normie but still.

I have a really hard time picking out a favorite Ween album or ranking them but I think it's something like:

1. Quebec
2. The Mollusk
3. Shinola Vol. 1
4. 12 Golden Country Greats
5. La Cucaracha
6. Chocolate and Cheese
7. White Pepper

Seems to be the consensus that Quebec is Kino af.

When I first heard Ween I thought they did the voice of Cartman due to that one song that was featured on Beavis and Butthead
I was young naive and stupid so I thought this was the duo riffing on South Park but these guys existed before South Park

I love Fantasy Jam. Would love to do a live cover of it someday with friends or my gf. It's quite amazing.

I also like the Pork Roll Egg & Cheese demo, been listening to God Ween Satan on repeat as well. The variety of the music is insane. It's honestly impressive that they influenced SpongeBob to the extent where the first movie (intended to be the finale) used Ocean Man as the credits music. Ween also seem very proud of it compared to other things they're associated with. Sorry if it's weird but it's hard for me to not mention the show since it got me and other kids into Ween from that silly Loop De Loop song. Such a gem of a band. I'm glad this timeline has been kind to Ween. Long live Boognish.

I finally decided to look into Ween after hearing the magnificent song that is Mourning Glory. What a song... about pumpkins, kids and the forest. This band has to have some of the best "band kid" humor ever.

Pumping Ween reading Jojo's Steel Ball Run at 14 in the middle of nowhere - hawaiian shirted out, that shit was fantastic. I find a surprising amount of people adore push the little daisy's.
I loved the pod and 12 golden country greats.

I'd never listened to Ween before, and I really liked Transdermal Celebration when it appeared in my recommended, so I listened to the rest of Quebec. Overall I really liked the album outside of the really silly songs, so I figured I'd ask here before I gave any of the other albums a listen.

I've heard Quebec is darker due to the circumstances the band member were going through, so if I'm looking for more introspective songs like Transdermal Celebration (and others I cant remember the names of) is there no point in listening to the other albums since I'm not going to find them? If most the albums are going to be more of the raunchy and silly songs of Quebec then I'd like to know now rather than figure out I don't like it later. Limited time and all that.

The only other album I figured I'd listen to was The Mollusk, mostly due to the SpongeBob connections and it's Gene and Dean's favorite record. Which is also why I think I don't care for La Cucaracha since Freeman called it a big POS, and generally I've found that if the creators go back on their work later it really wasn't that good to begin with (I didn't much care for Atom Heart Mother, which most of PF hated)

I'm open to suggestions.

I would recommend going through the entire discography when you have time. The sillier stuff might grow on you.
Based on what you said, though, I’d start with White Pepper, 12 Golden Country Greats, and Chocolate and Cheese.
Definitely dive into The Mollusk. The solos in Buckingham Green are absolutely amazing.

I didn't like La Cucaracha all that well at first either but like most Ween albums, the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. The only albums that I haven't gotten that to work on yet are the first three, but maybe one day. But yeah, Quebec is decidedly darker than the rest of their discography, there are a few dark songs on other albums but they usually have a humorous hook or a line that dispels a bit of it. It's a really tough contest but I'd still put Quebec at the top of the list and The Mollusk right below it. White Pepper has more of a mainstream sound and IME if you like other Ween albums, you either love it or don't care for it, but it's worth a shot - I ended up liking it, too.

UPDATE: I've listened to The Mollusk and over all it was really good! I don't know If I like more than Quebec but I would still say that its a perfect album. All I could think about for most of it was SpongeBob, like this is quintessentially the SpongeBob album. I swear I thought I heard Tom Kenny on the first track.

I said that I wasn't as huge of a fan on the more silly songs of Quebec, but since The Mollusk is pretty much entirely non-serious songs I found it worked more in its favor. Like the instrumental where they just sample a dog barking and guy moaning(?) got a good laugh out of me.

I just like how fun this album is, this is most certainly a comfort album and you can really tell they had just as much if not more fun making it as I did listening to it. It reminds me a bit of cLOUDDEAD's Ten Album in how it's less "weird" and more "wonderous".

I would say the back half is better than the first half, and the four song chain of Waving my Dick in the Wind to the finale was audio Kino. The "You should've seen Jimmy Wilson dance" section literally blew my mind when I heard it. When I did finally hear Ocean Man I was surprised at how almost out of place it felt? It's kind of like Another Brick in The Wall where it's so popular it's almost become separate entity from the album itself.

Overall, I'd say 8 or 9/10

Ween is such an amazing band to get into because their discography is so vast and spans so many different genres. I thought I hated country until I listened to 12 Golden Country Greats. But at the same time, they do their own thing and have a very unique sound. Highly recommend getting really sick and listening to The Pod while alone in your bedroom and drinking instant soup all day.

The Pod is probably one of the most diseased albums ever recorded. A masterpiece.
