[Xenomorphs Are Cute]

New season of Baki launched yesterday on Netflix. Vic Mignogna voiced a character in the dub in the first seasons. Right now the English dubbing is flagged as “coming soon” most likely due to Covid, so it will be interesting to see if he’ll still be voicing said character since the character does appear this season.

For anyone wondering, he plays Goki Shibukawa.

According to here some company named Studiopolis based in California. I’m on mobile and working so forgive me if I’m completely fucking wrong. Notably the Japanese VA for the same character is Bin Shimada who is also the Japanese VA for Broly.

I remember the Anime Outsider interview with Vic and I don't think he mentioned a dubbing company hiring him for voice work (though he isn't opposed).

If the voice acting was done by Funimation, then I doubt it.

From what I've heard, Netflix has its own way of dubbing anime it has licenses to, but I don't think they've been around long enough to have a stable of regulars. All I've heard about Netflix dubbing that's of note is that they completely botched Evangelion.

From what I've heard, Netflix has its own way of dubbing anime it has licenses to, but I don't think they've been around long enough to have a stable of regulars. All I've heard about Netflix dubbing that's of note is that they completely botched Evangelion.

That was actually 80% people getting assmad about “queer erasure” over a line that Netflix (...or rather, the Japanese studio’s in-house translator) translated MORE accurately to the original Japanese, and 20% nostalgia wanking over the original dub. Objectively speaking the Netflix dub is perfectly fine and is in some ways better than the original.
