What does the P stand for?
WEBP is web picture
WEBM is web video. I hate this one because I constantly want it to be WEBV for video.

You can change the default program for that MIME (file type) to your image viewer. You can lookup the right way to do it for your operation system. Usually there is an option when right clicking to open with other application and then have that be the new default.

The tech might be good (compression, image quality etc) but until more software starts adopting it and allowing easy conversion.. it fucking sucks. Especially if you are on an older OS.

webp doesn't seem to be listed as a supported type when uploading a new profile photo. Though, it processes fine if you do "All files" for the type and upload it anyway.

Automatic conversion to webp on here seems to strip image metadata. While this is often desirable behavior for privacy reasons, it sometimes results in the stripping of important information when archiving certain images uploaded by cows with shitty opsec.
I know metadata doesn't copy over when I convert to webp using ImageMagick, so it's unclear if the metadata stripping was intended when implementing webp on here. Something to consider regardless.

Edit: A "preserve metadata" toggle could be a nice feature someday.
