Don't bring back USSR, just make Americans wake up to the notion that China is the next near-peer adversary.

I would argue "near-peer" in the loosest sense of that phrase. China would be absolutely crushed in any military confrontation with the US: militarily and economically. They know that. That's why we've never gone to bed with news of Chinese missiles bombarding Taiwan.

Their infrastructure is an absolute nightmare and as technology progresses, and specifically more Chinese travel internationally and gain access to VPNs, the CCP is going to have a progressively more difficult time maintaining control. I see their state power weakening within the next century; not strengthening.

Admittedly, I am biased.

It sucks but competition is good. Europe conquered the World because it was full of tiny fiefdoms fighting each other. While China, Incas, and etc only cemented their power.

The Soviets initially had stronger connections and support for Israel than USA before the 1967 war. Israel wouldn't have survived the 1948 war if the Soviets hadn't funneled millions of dollars of Czechoslovakian arms, munitions, and vehicles to the nascent Jewish state during that war.

The Soviets only switched to backing the Arabs in 1967 because they thought it was a bigger geopolitical sphere of influence to gain from sacrificing their friendship with Israel.
