Waterfox web browser sold to System1
From ghacks.net (archive)
It appears that the Waterfox web browser has been sold to System1 recently, the same company that bought the Startpage search engine some time ago. To be precise, Startpage was bought by Privacy One Group Ltd which System1 owns. System1 is an advertising company that tries to "make advertising better and safer, while respecting consumer privacy".
Well, Waterfox is no better than Edge or Brave at this point.
Guess I'm going to have to switch to another browser if I don't want more of my data sold to advertisers.

I imagine they think theres some money to be made with search engine engines paying them to be the default on install

sad to see another independent browser be bought out like this but from a skim through of the article it appears they are more intrested in the technology behind waterfox and its devloper than waterfox itself so mabye they are thinking of devloping some kind of new browser?

Seriously though, I made Chrome my main browser long ago, but Waterfox was a good backup. I can't wait to never update it again.

Waterfox was always super buggy whenever I used it. Am I the only one that doesn't care if a browser is made by a company or independent?

I only ask for the Mozillas' and Googles' of the world to not touch my data, which you kind of can already tell Firefox not to do anyway. About : config is your friend.

I'm using Opera, myself. Built in VPN is nice to have.

Opera's a public company and owned mainly by the Chinese, so they're not going to be privacy-friendly at all.

I use Waterfox because I liked the old Firefox and my extensions, rather than some increasingly corporate browser that's trying to become like Chrome. I'll be on guard but I don't like the idea of it.

Seconding Palemoon. I know null doesn't like it, but I don't have any issues with websites.

Is there any browser left that is not made by sjws, not based on chrome, and no botnet included?
There's also some de-googlized versions of chromium you can try. Also there's a few qt5 or webkit based browsers as well.

Hows it feel to know all you data is stolen by China?

If the Chinks are that interested in the two or three torrent sites I go to, random porn and Kiwi Farms, more power to the slant-eyed bastards.

Sure you say that now. But look what happened with movies and video games. Nobody cared that the Chinese got mixed up in Western media until they started censoring shit and tailoring games and movies to suit Chinese tastes. Most torrent sites private or public are run for profit...and China is super lax on copyright laws. Don't be surprised if you can't download anti-Chinese movies from your favorite piracy shack because the Chinese now own them too.

Palemoon, which is made by furries.
For the fuck sake, why nowaday life tends to make choosing simple things a fucking mindstorm, and then using them is a fuckin hell?

And how do I make sure that even de-googled chromium is okay? I don't have a life to analyse some complex application code.
I know 'normal' is a relative definition, but why there is less and less normal things out there?
Maybe I'll look at this two in nearby future...

Life is a fuck

It's FOSS so at least people have eyes on it

Why would I want to download Falun Gong propaganda?

Like literally noone is going to make an anti-Chink movie except propagandists. The market is too big.

There is no need to worry about China if you're not a Chinaman or in the vicinity of the Han Empire. You can walk up to a Chinese policeman and ask him to point you in the direction of a restaraunt or shop you found on Facebook or Google over Tor, showing him the screen, and he won't care. Likewise, the only concern with being tracked by Chinamen is that some unscrupulous company might sell that data back to the NSA/Mossad.
